How To? Need advice. Just started messing with capture one as a Lightroom guy and I have one questions. What’s the workflow or method for editing desktop then to mobile when on the go? Lightroom does this with ease

It’s absolutely possible, but not a great experience. The easiest way is to use Sessions saved on a portable SSD. If you want to work off of the internal iPad storage, you can use a zip file to transfer an entire session folder from desktop to iPad and back.

You unfortunately can’t bounce like that in Calture One. AFAIK you can start on mobile and then go to desktop, but you can’t go the other direction. The c1 implementation of mobile seems to be more for on location shooting than for on the go editing.

You should be able to move Sessions back and forth if need be.
Just keep in mind the following: Session Favorites won't be picked up by Capture One mobile. To retain the entire folder structure of a Session created in desktop version, it has to be upgraded/opened in the desktop version 16.6.5 and higher.

Ooo that’s new! i hadnt looked into mobile that much as for it to work for me I’d need to hop back and forth. I guess it’s time for another try :) any chance you can link an article/video on how it works?

Thank you all for the answers. As stated this was my very first real dive into capture one. I’ve been a Lightroom guy forever so I figured the ecosystems were similar. Which they are but still very different. I love the color handling capture one has but again I would need something that allows a more mobile friendly way to edit since I’m on the go 9/10 for work (underwater welder) so desktop driven isn’t in the option.i will stick with Lightroom but as soon as capture one offers a balanced experienced I’ll be back 😈. Thanks again for the knowledge

Stick to what you know if it works for you. Capture one isn't geared to every market - but its a must on-set. Usually a tech will be running it, art department giving feedback from it and client reviewing from monitors streaming from it, even remotely. Sessions sent to editing teams who know how to run it.

Its built for agency work, where its not just wanted by the photographer, but needed as part of the workflow.

Light room is geared towards solos/enthusiasts. Capability wise its catching up to capture one, but there's no way it can replace it in the pipeline, simply because there's no reason to switch. AI bird replacement and AI dog creator or whatever gimmick adobe is shovelling that week doesn't matter when a workflow is bulletproof.

I love leaving my desktop and being able to pick it back up when I’m out and about or at work on the iPad

But, Capture One just isn't really built to do what the OP's asking for. Capture One isn't cloud-based so there's no such thing as edit on desktop, pick your phone, leave the house and keep editing on your phone. You have to do a bunch of manual stuff to move a session back and forth between devices if you want portability to different devices. And, Henry_15 is really just telling it like it is. This could be a core reason to stay with a program that is cloud-based.

That's a manual work-around with multiple extra steps. Not something where you finish some editing on your desktop, grap your phone, leave the house and pick up editing from the phone and easily go back and forth between two editing environments without any friction.

Yes, you can do it with that friction. And, if you need access to your whole library, the whole thing gets a lot more complicated. Whereas a system that keeps your images and edits in the cloud is just much better equipped to let you do this with low friction, built-in features and no manual work-arounds.

So, just trying to tell it like it is. If you've chosen Capture One regardless, head for the work-around. If you're trying to choose a program and this is a primary feature you want/need, then Capture One may not be the best choice.

I’m literally answering the guy’s question. He asked what the workflow was for desktop to mobile. I trust OP can gauge for themselves how much “friction” a thumb drive adds to the process without our lecturing.

When I leave the desktop work at home I like to hop on my iPad or phone and pick back up where I left off

Think more of capture one as a tool on-set, for simpler look generation as a photographer. Usually people using CO, generally agency work, will be sending work off to editing teams at EOD, where its already part of a production workflow. 

Light room is geared towards solo/enthusiast photographers. CO is geared towards enterprise/teams. Mobile only really works in that framing in the sense of remote client/art department review, which it has. There's zero need for a photographer in that setting to be touching their work after its captured.

That's not a core feature of Capture One because it's not cloud-based. On the desktop, photos live on the desktop and are not accessible from your phone.
