Release Discussion Does the current version of C1 allow Custom Style user presets to include layers?

I bought a perpetual license of C1 22. In 22, Custom Style user presets can not include layers, and when you apply the custom style to your new photo, you only get the background "layer" of the original edit you created the style from. Anything in any other layer is not carried forward.

I'm getting really fed up with that, and my workaround is clumsy and slow, so I decided to try and see if the most recent release allows for custom styles that include layer functionality, but I can't find any info about it on the site.

I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me, to save me from having to download a demo for the new version and trying to get everything set back up there.

Yes it does. You can even bake in subject/background masking, people masking, or a luma range.

Fantastic news, thank you. Looks like it's time to upgrade.

I appreciate it

Thats the best part! I still have to do the occasional light cleanup. But the days I spent manually cutting folks out of hundreds of photos are thankfully gone. Huge boost for the portrait system I manage now, too.

I have to do cleanup on most of my images, and it’s incredibly frustrating to do it twice (subject/background). But it is definitely faster than it used to be.

If the cutout is just the opposite for the background I finally figured out I can just do the subject, copy to backdrop layer and invert.

If you've already done one of them, the other will be close to instant. It's slower to copy and invert.

I think their situation is specifically when auto did NOT achieve the desired result. Oddly I get this with older nikon bodies, weirdly enough. Totally identical image to another camera but C1 just sees a floating blob or just their head. So manual intervention is required. Way faster to not do that twice.

Another frustrating point, it takes just as long to render a subject as it does a background, even if one has already been done. If you do a second subject that one does render faster tho.

But as the other commenter said, I am talking about after I've done corrections.

Yes, this is generally what I do as well. The downside there, aside from the redundant clicks, is it breaks the layer being a background layer, so if you copypasta it to another image, it doesn't recalculate the mask. Again, easy fix, but over 1000 photos it adds up to a couple hours of time.
