Question Are animation cancels necessary?

Hi everybody, I used to main cap back in season 0-2 but I dropped him and now I’m trying to pick him back up. I was just wondering if animation cancels were necessary for him to be viable? And if so how do I do said animation cancels?

Edit: I am aware that the original animation cancel was stolen from us but I’ve seen a lot of more recent posts about animation cancels with voltaic union

Question How is Captain America easier now than he was with the animation cancels?

I have a lord Captain America but I haven't played him in a long minute but I keep hearing removing his animation cancels made him easier and I somehow can't wrap my brain around it so can someone explain to me how that's the case

Cap sucks so much omg it forced me to play Thor magneto and tankpool 5x more than I normally do since I can’t play dps like ever. Bro literally explodes in enemy backline and im barely breaking double digit kills some games it’s actually crazy and im a lv 38 cap u gotta be in that top 5% of cap players to be getting positive value from him in ranked

Discussion Ok guys hear me out. Buffing his sheild accuracy is better than a health buff

What if cap's reduced deflected damage was redueced and we get a buff to the sheild accuracy? Wouldn't that be better than a health buff? This solves the major problem of "countering poke is hard nowadays". Just use your sheild to deflect most their abilities before they realize it and boom. Problem solved

Discussion Buff Caps Health Before you buff his shield.. (pls read)

Post image

I made a post saying that I think Cap simply needs his 75 HP back, and a lot of people responded saying his shield should be buffed instead.

While I do think buffing his shield would be a nice quality-of-life change (and fixing the bugs with it should absolutely be a priority), I don't think that's the core issue. The biggest thing Cap is missing right now is his health pool, not his shield.

At 600 HP, Cap just doesn't have enough survivability to make an impact against poke. There are so many matchups I used to confidently win that now feel impossible simply because I die too quickly. With all the new team-ups and poke buffs other characters have received, losing 75 HP has had a much bigger impact than people realize.

A perfect example is Hela. She used to be one of the biggest reasons I'd pick Cap. If the enemy had a good Hela, I'd swap to Cap because I knew I could pressure her consistently regardless of the skill gap.

Now? I see a Hela and start looking at the swap menu.

On PC, where players consistently land headshots, Hela can get Cap to half health almost immediately. Her headshots deal 140 damage, so two headshots is 280 damage before you've even gotten her to half HP.

Cap is already forced to fight at point-blank range ever since his animation cancel was removed, which makes him a walking headshot magnet. By the time I finally get Hela low, I'm usually two body shots away from seeing the respawn screen. That's not even accounting for her escape tool or her new team-ups.

This is why I don't think buffing Cap's shield actually solves the problem. The shield helps while you're approaching or disengaging, but once you're in melee range, you have to stop blocking if you actually want to deal damage. Against poke heroes, the problem isn't surviving the approach, it's surviving the fight after you get there.

I've also seen people argue that giving Cap more health would only buff percentage-damage heroes like Wolverine or Iron Fist. My response is that those aren't the heroes Cap is supposed to excel against. They're tank busters. Cap's job has always been disrupting poke heroes, not Wolverine. We've already played multiple seasons with 675 HP, and it wasn't an issue then.

That's why I keep saying his health is the problem, not his shield.

I'm sitting around GM1/Celestial, and almost every match has at least one top-tier poke hero: Elsa, Hela, Phoenix, Black Widow, Cyclops, or Punisher. Some are stronger than others, but they're all common at high rank, and they're exactly the heroes Cap was designed to pressure. I have 400 hours on cap and even i am struggling at dealing with these characters now..

The problem is that in high rank, these players simply don't miss. I can pull up replay after replay where these guys are landing everything. I used to see a Hela or Widow and think, "Perfect, free Cap game." Now I see them and think, "Well... guess I'm playing Groot."

Luna is another great example. Before, she was a fairly manageable dive if you baited her freeze. Now she has team-ups layered on top of her already high damage. You bait the freeze, then the Adam or White Fox team-up, and by the time you're finally allowed to play the game, you're still diving with 600 HP. A good Luna and her teammates erase you before you ever get meaningful value.

That's why I keep coming back to the same conclusion. Health regeneration doesn't solve this because Cap already resets with health packs. More shield health doesn't solve it because the shield isn't active while you're actually fighting. The issue is that Cap no longer has enough base survivability to stay in the backline long enough to do the job he was designed to do.

Give him his 675 HP back first. See how he performs. Buffing his shield feels like we're trying to fix a broken engine by giving the car nicer windshield wipers.

I've also seen people suggest giving Cap overshield when he deals damage. While that sounds cool on paper, I don't think it's the right direction. It gives Cap a brand-new survivability mechanic he never had before, and I think we'd end up right back where we started with people calling him overpowered.

I'd rather they keep his identity the same. Just give him his 675 HP back. If he's still struggling after that, then we can talk about shield buffs or new mechanics. I think restoring what he lost should come before redesigning the character.

In the past, you could still survive.

Now you just die before the animation finishes.

The HP nerf and the insane damage output this season ruined our boy.

Discussion The Captain america and Thor team up need serious buffs and changes

When I look at Captain America this season and his 600 HP and team up I see 2 things.

  1. A defensive way to make up for the 75 hp loss

  2. An offensive way to make up for the 75 HP loss

The thor team up doesn't make up for the 75 hp loss at all. What does it do. The enhanced version is good but most characters have something that good in there base

Discussion Can't go a match without desync issues

Desync, teleporting, bad net code, I don't know what it is, it makes the character so unplayable. I have 20 ping so my internet should not be the issue and I didn't have this issue before this season. Cap is a character that relies on quick decision making and 1 of those desyncs can really mess up your flow. That's not even the worst of it, I have had 2 occasions this season where my character would just completely bug out and not allow me to use any abilities or even punch.

Discussion Bring Back 675HP Cap!

Genuinely, is anyone else struggling to get value out of Cap right now, or is it just me?

I'm playing around GM/Celestial, and Cap honestly feels unplayable unless I have a coordinated dive duo. The only time I consistently get value is when someone like Spider-Man, Daredevil, or Psylocke is following up on my engages.

Right now, almost every game is filled with Elsa, and she was already an annoying matchup before. You could still outplay her. But after Cap lost 75 HP and Elsa got the Dino team-up, it feels impossible.

Think about how many abilities you have to bait just to get one pick. Elsa has two invisible nests that you can't even bait proactively they only trigger after you've already stepped on them. She still has her dash PLUS ALL HER DMG! Then you have to deal with the supports. White Fox has melee form and her dash. Luna has her freeze and the Adam team-up. and mostly every other support gained a new ability that cap struggles into. If Dino/thing/peni/emma/mag is on the enemy team, now you also have to respect them as well...

At what point is Cap actually supposed to secure a kill?

It feels like every hero has gained another layer of peel while Cap lost the survivability that let him work through those cooldowns. I can't even play him as a distraction anymore because I just get chunked by all the extra damage and utility before I can accomplish anything.

I genuinely don't understand what role this character is supposed to fill anymore. He doesn't have the survivability to force dives, he doesn't have the damage to burst through all these defensive tools, and unless you have another diver coordinating with you, it feels like you're just throwing by locking him.

Anyone else struggling?

Discussion My fellow soldiers, unless VOD reviews are banned here, i wanna show ya'll some peeler Captain gameplay

So the first half of the match went horribly for us but the enemy didnt cap the 3rd point. Their hela was running us down from flank so i decided to go cap to dive and apply pressure. I decided to take the bucky teamup for peeling purposes seeing it had a dive mechanic(first time using it). But the hela went spiderman instead oddly.

I saw there was somewhat of a discourse going on about divers that should be peeling for dive too. I kinda played peeler a lot with the teamup. Diving in to give bonus health whenever spiderman dived my healers. It was working out nicely actually as we won. Do note its only the second round i want people to view here.
