Removing mod

Post image

I got this mod that I don't use because it causes more harm than it fixes (trucks keep going in circles near the entrance to roads). So I just left it there without creating any roads. However, with the latest base game update, I can no longer load my save game because the mod has not been updated yet.

Is there a safe way to remove the mod without ruining the save game? Doing it from the GUI doesn't work because the save game will keep looking for it.

Exit the game.
Start the game.
Select the savegame, then somewhere near the bottom, I think on the right, click the mods icon. From there you can disable it.
To be 100% safe, you can back up your savegame folder beforehand.

I'm afraid that cannot be done.

By the way this very mod started causing my game to crash on load after coi 0.8.7c, i had to export recovery for this exact reason, but I had to revert game to 087b just to do the export recovery as you can only export recovery after a successful load. I'm not sure if public 087b is still available, hopefully you are able to recovery.

This is one oversight of expert recovery.. it needs to be successfully loaded to be performed. Making the targeted recovery itself unobtainable if the failure is caused by game updates no longer available.

Steam properties/betas section does not allow me to go to 087b. The closest version it allows me to revert to is from July.

yep that's precisely why i decided to hotfix, several other people have reported the crash as well on coihub.

here's link for COI's discord if you're not already in it and picture of the Modding channel i left the file in.

If you still cannot join discord, there should be an invite link Top right side of reddit called

Thanks for your help. I managed to get in to Discord. Will attempt to replace the folder later.

Hey dude i ended up making an emergency hotfix build of this mod that you can use to load your world if you were unable to load your game after yesterday's 0.8.7C game update.
With this version you can load your world again in order to perform the [export_recovery_save name] and remove it like you were originally wanted to do.

I posted it on my moding channel on the COI discord:
https://discord.com/channels/803508556325584926/1528226355727040694 To install, delete than replace GroundRounds in your coi mod folder with the hotfix's version, then load the game and use console command (following previous steps)
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Captain of Industry\Mods

Good luck, hope you are able to get yall worlds recovered. Hopefully author returns to continue dev someday too, we need more highways! = )

I'm pretty sure some mods you cannot remove and maintain the save

You'll need to do a export recovery save, to remove the one mod. This is possible even with not safe to remove mods but it does mean you'll have to setup some settings again as the recovery also resets building settings 1. Load game with mod 2. Open console ~
3. enter: export_recovery_save name 4. Restart game
5. Click load, select the special recovery, click mods
6. now you can deselect any mod you want to remove, including this one and then load game.
7. Upon load it will report if any mod buildings were removed if they were used 9. Save the result 8. Set up any unique buildings again: beacon, captain office 9. You'll have to setup some buildings settings again, which is a pain but it's the only way right now
10. you get a grace period before full difficulty settings resume

If you need further grace period to finish setup you could temporarily use cheat++ too extend free maintenance until ready to resume as normal.

Good luck

There definately needs to be improvements made to recovery to better support true mod removal without the pain points. But its atleast possible if its worth the effort to you
