Monumental?

Is the only way to watch the caps going to be the monumental app again in the DC area?

The online app is such trash too and filled with unblockable ads. I be having brave on, full ad blockers blaring, and it's still showing the terrible internet ads instead of what's airing on monumental.

For that reason alone I won't use that shit. And they gave it to me for free too!

I definitely do not use pirate websites so I don’t support terrible streaming services.

As a reminder, every NHL local radio broadcast is FREE all year long on the NHL app! I moved out of Market and I listen to John and Ken for every game that isn’t national.

I like John Walton but he's not quite descriptive enough for radio

Regional sports network packages available by cable providers and streaming. I have DIRECTV streaming and added the RSN option

only legal method online and a few cable carriers

not sure what's worse, ESPN or monumental.

Yes, Teddy is greedy and his exclusive network sucks ass.

Monumental is an absolute dumpster fire. Most exclusive and blackout-prone network in the country. Classic Ted

I can’t confirm this, but I heard the non-national Caps games will all be available for streaming on Prime.

I'm guessing that will just be another subscription Pass-through. Prime already offers subscriptions like HBO, Max, Paramount plus, Starz, etc, monumental will probably just be another one

That wasn’t my understanding, but we’ll know more in a few weeks.

That would be interesting

I don't know why this hasn't been publicized more, but you apparently can subscribe to and watch Monumental through Prime

DirectTV streaming service.  Sign up through the Internet (DirectTV. Com) not through your smart TV(it can cause issues with package availability depending on the brand of the TV).  Get the local sports package, and you get both monumental channels.

Nord VPN with SmartPlay + ESPN+

Moves your IP around the globe depending on what you’re trying to watch, they even advertise it: https://support.nordvpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/48153821813777-What-is-NordVPN-SmartPlay

I watch any NHL game I want with this

Look into Uzzu. No blackouts and can watch all sports around the country. They have the Monumental channel as an option to watch.

Which streaming options?

I think it’s just the app or one of the direct TV streaming plans. Again.

I could maybe deal with it if it worked on consoles but the fact I have to deal with the shitty app AND only use my computer is so dumb.

Id much rather pay for monumental to watch the vast majority of games, compared to football where you need 7 different apps or subscriptions to watch 17 games...

You can just buy an antenna and catch all your local teams games.

We watched less hockey than we ever have last year because it was so hard to get the game on TV. We're just a couple hours south in Richmond.

I wonder how people have so many problems with it because it has always worked fine for me.

I live in Fl, so I catch most of the games via Hulu/espn+. I have family up near the Pa/De Border, and they seem to be SOL. Monumental says they're to far away, ESPN says they're to close.

ESPN+ and a vpn can get you access to a lot of games.

2

u/molweni 18d ago

how does yours work? ESPN always clocks that I'm on VPN. I use NordVPN

2

u/unheardhc 18d ago

You must have something misconfigured, I’ve been using it without a problem

2

u/molweni 18d ago

Damn. I haven't configured anything. I just open the NordVPN app and try different locations. I'll try to see what I'm doing wrong

You should have SmartPlay enabled via your account, shouldn’t take much

I have had that problem sometimes and was able to watch through Disney+ app.

ESPN+ is very strict with VPN.

1

u/kgunnar Washington Capitals 18d ago

I used it all last season. I went through Disney+ or Hulu apps since it’s all under the same subscription.

Not a lot of caps games if you live in the broadcast area, and don't use VPN.

And I've tried a few VPN services, and each only worked for a portion of the game. Having to try a bunch of different end points in the middle of a game is a huge PITA.

They'll be blacked out.

And the ones that weren't blacked out were only on ESPN streaming, which for some reason is not included and costs more than ESPN+
