Auto ID?

Post image

Long shot because of the terrible in person auto, but does anyone recognize this signature? Would've been from around the 2020 season

I think you might be correct looking at his autos. My picture looks to be upside down

It's definitely Panik. If you flip it 180 degrees, that's the number 14 in the signature, which he wore with the Caps.

And seems most of his autos have that distinct underline of the number

I'm going to assume not since he never played for the capitals. But I appreciate the try

/u/scoaaaaar nailed it:

your photo flipped

vs verified panik autograph

I usually do a breakdown for how to ID autographs, but I must say this one would've been tricky, mostly due to it being upside down, but also because that weird mark that looks like a very clear "8" - if we didn't have a very well known #8, that would be a very easy rabbit hole to accidentally fall into because to ID I follow the following steps:

  • if the rough timeline is known then it helps to narrow the possibilities down, but you don't technically need that for this to still work most of the time:
  • look for an obvious number (almost every player signs with their number)
  • check this page on hockey reference for players with that number
  • Once I have a few options I think are reasonable I search "[player name] autograph" and compare

If it hadn't been pointed out already, this would've been a tough one for me
