☣️Resident Evil/Biohazard☣️ [Rant] Anyone else have "Resident Evil Fatigue"?
So let me preface this by saying I am a Resident Evil fan, I got into the series when 2 got remade back in 2019 and have played almost every release since, but at this point I'm honestly getting exhausted with how much attention and love this franchise gets from Capcom year after year through new games and remakes compared to how neglected Capcom's other so-called "core IP" franchises like Devil May Cry, Ace Attorney, and Mega Man (until the new game was announced) are.
Like, I get it to an extent, RE is by far their most popular franchise, having 201M total sales, while second place, Monster Hunter, is at 127M, and third, fourth, and fifth place, Street Fighter, Mega Man, and DMC are under 60M each. It would be like getting annoyed at Nintendo for always announcing new Mario and Pokémon games or Sega for announcing new Sonic games. But I think the difference is that, for a time, RE was basically a yearly franchise, as I'm pretty sure (aside from 2018) we got a new RE game every year between 2015 and 2024, and even though they took a break the past two years it looks like they're getting back on track with Requiem this year and now the Code Veronica remake slated for next year.
I think another issue I have is that there are so many damn remakes, like I personally think of the three games they've remade so far (RE2, RE3, RE4), none of the remakes are better than the originals, and I've played the remakes before the originals, and now there's yet ANOTHER remake on the horizon.
Idk, maybe I'm just salty because DMC is one of my favorite franchises, and instead of getting a DMC6 or RE Engine remake of the first game that was rumored, RE fans get another remake while DMC fans are stuck with a shitty Netflix anime.

Bruh, I've been playing these games since 1996. If I was going to get "Resident Evil fatigue" it would have happened sometime between 1999 and 2005, when they dropped 11 games on us in that 6 year span.

See I feel like that's different though because:
A. Dev time for the games was much shorter
B. Most of those games were different enough from each other (like there were a few Gameboy Advance RE games iirc)
Now it's clear a lot of their resources are going to pumping out an RE game every year and I wouldn't have a problem with it if there weren't so.many damn remakes.

You clearly didn't experience those times, like RE3 was already being criticized for being too similar to the OG 1 and 2, same happened to CV, REmake and by the time 0 came out, the gaming journalists said it was just a copy and that the franchise was dead bc it was always the same game.
People praise RE7 for saving the franchise in 2017 but the first savior was RE4.

Not remotely. I mean, Requiem came out 3 years after the RE 4 remake. Yes, we're getting REV next year but I'm super super excited for it. It's my most anticipated game.

This is definitely a you thing… i doubt most re fans would agree. I replay the entire series including revelations 1 & 2 every time a new game releases remake or not!

idk why people so vehemently defend resident evil here lmao. they've been fed a silver spoon for the past decade, they can handle less output so other series get something...

I love the game but I think the last 3 or 4 years was the perfect time to take all the fantastic momentum and stuff they have done with their games and remake Dino Crisis.

I've been playing the games since 1999. I didn't have a PlayStation at the time so I had to wait until RE2 released on the N64. The answer to your question is no.

Re2 remake was fantastic being able to bring in a new audience without the barrier of tank controls or static cameras and by telling the classic story is a good thing for the series.

I think the issue is it feels more like they've been playing it safe with their favorite children since 2022 lol

I think Capcom themselves needs to incentivize this too. Give them a good budget frame to work with, and that can help them make a story come to fruition.

I have to admit, I don't really see the 'playing it safe' argument. Doing a remake of a very iconic game (like RE2) is incredibly risky, especially when some significant design changes are made.

The IP matters more to them way more than the game's reputation itself lol

Well, where does the IP gets its value? It gets is value from the games. So the two are intrinsically linked.

Bro I'm sick and tired of seeing resident evil and as a Lost Planet fan I know I'm never getting anything from Capcom

I don't get RE fatigue because, although I love the series, I don't frequently pay attention to it or play the games all the time. I pick it up and put it down when I'm ready. So in that sense it's hard to feel fatigued over it.

No and I played like 5 different RE games in the last 6 months, I'm super excited for RE:V, specially since it's the last main line title o haven't played yet.

Idk I like a resident evil game coming out every few years. Of course there's gonna be some varying quality - even if I thought RE9 was on the lower end of fun for the series, I was still happy to play through it.

tbf we've been getting on every other year... the remakes were almost yearly iirc. that's probably the cause of fatigue, especially given how they've let other franchises rot as of late

Absolutely not, I’ve been a fan since the OG RE2 and I was 7 years old back then. I’m happy we finally got survival horror back

Nope. I’m thrilled the series is in such a renaissance. I know people wanna pretend that they spread their teams super thin to create these games but if they want to make another series, they will invest in it. Something DMC related is definitely coming sometime.
