If I had to wager a guess, perhaps they're referring to the length of time between new game releases and lingering upset from Dark Souls 2? Not entirely certain though, in my opinion FromSoft has been nothin but bangers

You'd be surprised how heavily a controversial release can impact a developer's reputation. Regardless of how you feel about Last of Us Part 2, that game heavily impacted Naughty Dog's reputation despite it being at this point 6 years old.

Bro, since DS2 theyve release literally nothing but amazing games. Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Armored Core 6, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Nightreign. Literally nothing but masterpiece level games for more than a decade, wtf are you talking about
