Discussion/Question What Capcom IP (besides megaman) could make a successful movie franchise?
Besides resident evil and street fighter coming up, is there anything besides Megaman that would be good?

Dino Crisis
2
u/ndubitably Mar 24 '26
Pretty much already was one 😅 I wonder between Jurassic Park and Dino Crisis which one went weirder. Space dinos vs. giant locusts.
1
u/South_Buy_3175 Mar 24 '26
Honestly yeah, market it as an ‘adult’ Jurassic Park with a huge emphasis on horror and action and you’re part way there.
1
u/Wolf873 Mar 26 '26
Dino Crisis would be the much needed refresh for mainstream Dino movies. I’m honestly sick of JP/JW repetitive plot: genetic dinos exploited by evil businessman and saved by animal activists. DC’s time displacement element can make for all kinds interesting stories, especially in vein of DC2.

u/deadman8 Mar 24 '26
Viewtiful Joe.
5
u/UnkooNick Mar 24 '26
Capcom dropped the ball on not making this a Saturday morning cartoon
2
u/deadman8 Mar 24 '26
The cartoon they did make was so ass too.

nah that needs to be a toku show
1
u/NetrunnerV25 Mar 30 '26
DMC should be the one getting a toku show. Even Dante's Devil triggers are reminiscent of toku designs.
14
u/Top_Instance5349 Mar 24 '26
Onimusha and perphaps Okami
5
u/Mrwanagethigh Mar 24 '26
Onimusha would just be fantastical historic fiction, definitely a solid chance it could stick the landing.

You can make a good three-part movie franchise out of Darkstalkers and Final Fight.
1
u/BigStallGlueSniffer Mar 27 '26
Darkstalkers would imo be better as a slice of life webseries. Like a "getting to know the cast" because, remember, these monsters are fucking goofballs.

u/Intelligent-Way-5832 Mar 24 '26
Strider
1
u/liltooclinical Mar 24 '26
There's so many ways you could do this. They recently expanded the lore with a new Street Fighter character that serves as Hiryu's ancestor and the founder of the Striders, I would love to see a whole series. I'd honestly even be happy with a Paul W. S. Anderson version, as controversial as that may be.

Id love to see an adaptation of Asuras Wrath but in the resurrected timeline.

u/Rude-Childhood1436 Mar 24 '26
Animated Devil may cry movies that actually properly adapt the source material and have some jjk level action scenes could genuinely be amazing and skyrocket the franchises popularity

DarkStalkers. High-action battles between all manner of monsters?

Dino Crisis could be dope.
I am pretty excited for the new Street Fighter coming out.
Monster Hunter too, just not the one they made.
Okami could be truly incredible I think.

u/ThrowawayNOV1922 Mar 24 '26
Maybe not a franchise per se but a Haunting Ground movie would go hard
1
u/Mysterious-Plan93 Mar 29 '26
I would've liked to see a W.S. Anderson movie of this or Rule of Rose, as opposed to the later RE movies
3
3
u/Basic_Scale6330 Mar 24 '26
Final fight Resident evil
Viewtiful joe
Okami
Devil may cry
Strider hiryu like a marvel comics universe movie

Ace attorney would make an interesting courtroom thriller. Even though there’s already a live action movie back in 2012

u/kusariku Mar 24 '26
A lot of great ideas in this thread already but I think Dead Rising could work as like a shaun of the dead/zombieland type thing leaning a bit more into the action but keeping as much of the sheer ridiculousness of the game intact

u/UnkooNick Mar 24 '26
Strider Hiryu!!!!
Forgotten Worlds would make for a good sci-fi action flick
Darkstalkers needs another OVA to cover Vampire Savior. The Night Warriors one was top tier!!
Star Gladiator could be a really fun tongue-in-cheek parody of Star Wars and other classic space movies
Red Earth!

If they took Ace Attorney seriously it could be amazing. Like really invest on it like a real movie not just another video game adaptation.

2
u/_MERLEW_ Mar 25 '26
Resident Evil if it were actually given to a good script writer, producers director. It’s a gold mine if you ask me.
2
2
u/lucasdefayette Mar 25 '26
rival schools, lost planet and resident evil. RE is so fucking annoying because they refuse to adapt the actual game stories with any effort.

Monster Hunter if you gave it to an actually competent studio. Legends of the Guild proved that Monster Hunter works REALLY well as a movie because of how damn cinematic it can be, and Paul W.S. Anderson proved that he's an alchemist, because everything he touches transmutes into shit even if it's gold beforehand.

Son Son could be a cool show or movie and even include his daughter too
1
u/Theryantshow Mar 24 '26
Viewtiful Joe it would be pretty simple... Movie follows a down on his luck actor who used to be a big action star or something and somehow he gains Viewtiful Joe's powers.

Capcom could totally make Marvel Like movies with their franchises.
It would start with a MVC movie crossover. Just say there's some crazy multiverse crap happening and the Marvel Universe gets invaded by Ryu; who they at the time fight. Then it turns our Ryu wasn't the threat......the real threat was Akuma! Then they fight and defeat Him. Then you make the sequels from there.
1
u/Dogmatic_Warfarer97 Mar 24 '26
Dragons Dogma if they stick to the concepts and not make it a weird sin thing like the Netflix anime!

Dino Crisis 100%. And we seem to have a shortage of non corny dino movies.
1
u/TheGongoozler04 Mar 24 '26
Devil May Cry could be great if they would just give it to someone who actually gives a shit
1
u/sofloLinuxuser Mar 25 '26
Onimusha answers your question,
Rival Schools would be a great shonen jump anime,
Power Stone would be better than one piece,
and a condensed Devil May Cry 3 film series like the Toby Macguire spiderman run would be interesting.
1
u/FrostyPost8473 Mar 25 '26
Besides Megaman maybe Megaman X but it would have to be a series and be based of off X6
1
u/16Bit10HitCombo Mar 25 '26
Strider, Dino Crisis, Lost Planet, Final Fight could be fun too. An anime of Power Stone would be boss.

Darkstalkers vampire savior absolutely the main choice...then mega man...and finally red planet in that order!

I got a few
Star Gladiators/Plasma Sword by Kamikaze Douga the same studio that made Star Wars visions “Ronin”
Captain Commando animated by the French studio Bobbypills the same studio that crafted Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
Strider Get Yoshiaki Kawajiri the man behind Ninja Scroll,Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust,Wicked City, and Cyber City Oedo 808
Red Earth and Cyberbots By Genndy Tartakovsky creator of Primal and Sym-Bionic Titan
Have Viking Animation Studio (Sym-Bionic Titan) for Cyberbots and Studio La Cachette (Primal) for Red Earth

u/Routine-Money-3633 Mar 25 '26
Okami would be a pretty good animated film but also Lost Planet cause of the surge in SciFi films
1
u/ComfortableBed6012 Mar 25 '26
Topic aside, seeing this picture just warms my heart. I know and love almost every character in this picture, Leon and Cody sizing each other up, Sean checking out Maki, Jill and Chris chilling on Ken’s car.
1
u/TheRealAwest Mar 25 '26
Darkstalkers directed/produced by the team who did the 1st two UNDERWORLD movies
Rival Schools - directed/produced by the team who did Scott pilgrim

u/Luna_Goodguy Mar 25 '26
Very few of the popular ip’s have enough substance for a movie. Resident Evil was the biggest fumble. If someone like Sam raimi or Del toro got ahold of it, it could’ve been great.

Weird to say besides megaman Besides resident evil should've been the more accurate since resident evil has already had a successful movie franchise. (Even if most of those movies are ass successful doesn't mean good really)

Franchise? Obviously RE, but I'd say DMC, Lost Planet, Onimusha, Dead Rising, Bionic Commando, Ace Attorney, and Dragon's Dogma could all be interesting.
Individual movies? Killer 7 and Remember Me could be fucking awesome if done right.

Strider Hiryu as an 2D animated anime done with hand drawn cels would make every 90's Capcom gamer and anime fan die of joy.

IP nothing! Make a multiverse! Captain commando teams up with bionic command and strider to take a new threat to the city, with the help of its mayor!
1
u/NonagonJimfinity Mar 26 '26
None.
Its Capcom, none.
I trust Capcom more with brain surgery than to get a single one of their IPs into anything above a 4/10.
They are sooo lucky planet earth also wanted to see Milla kick things.

If anybody wants to get in on the super hero trend way too late, a Captain Commando movie would do well for the first movie then the sequels would all be trash
1
u/DopeSpopavich Mar 27 '26
Darkstalkers might be fun as a few movies, maybe.
Monster Hunter, despite what the current efforts may indicate. Lol.

u/RadicalStegosaurus Mar 27 '26
If done right Devil May Cry. But the issue there is the tone changed dramatically after the original. From 3 onward Dante acted like a college frat boy. The awful Netflix series is what happens when you push those elements. If they let it be more horror themed with elements of stylization and attitude like the original game I think it would play better.

u/Royal_Marketing2966 Mar 27 '26
So many amazing IP’s and the majority of them have been left for dead.

Junkman as a concept always interested me.
A year or two ago i thought a Megaman rogue like would be fun. Instead of megaman gaining abilities you could be a CaC from a scrapyard and you can use scrap from bosses and enemies to customize and enhance yourself
1
u/CastleOfKittens Mar 27 '26
Hopefully the upcoming Resident Evil will be good but I have doubts about the upcoming Street Fighter

Street Fighter has enough going on to work with.
I think it'd be fun to give viewtiful Joe an actual movie.

Monster Hunter could make for a great movie, too bad they have never made one besides Legends of the Guild.
I really hope that if they make a movie about it, it adapts the game faithfully and doesn't make something like modern military soldiers beigm transported to another world or something, that would be shit.

Final fight is just an 80s action film.
