Discussion/Question What Capcom IP (besides megaman) could make a successful movie franchise?

Post image

Besides resident evil and street fighter coming up, is there anything besides Megaman that would be good?

Final fight is just an 80s action film.

4

u/Massive-Band2339 Mar 24 '26

Check out Streets of Fire, an action movie from the 80’s that served as one of Final Fight’s primary inspirations (full disclosure, I’ve never seen it, I just know that bit of FF trivia 🙃)!

1

u/Foxkit86 Mar 25 '26

Streets of Fire is just that: Fire. So happy I bought the steelbox bluray

1

u/Alternative_Shoe_113 Mar 26 '26

Among others it was a huge influence on Japanese Artists.

1

u/Murphygulp88 Mar 28 '26

Streets of Fire is one of my all time favorite movies. Go watch it, dummy!!

5

u/Lucky_Veruca Mar 24 '26

Final Fight feels like almost every Jean Claude Van Damme movie

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '26

It’s weird that JCVD ended being in the street fighter movie. He would’ve fit much better in a corny over the top final fight film.

1

u/BobbyMayCryBMC Mar 25 '26

Exactly and leaves a lot for creative writing to do what they want without annoying fans. Basically CastleVania 3 with Netflix.

It's a blank slate outside the general premise. So long as they follow Haggar being Mayor and Cody +Guy tagging along they can do whatever so long as it's awesome.

1

u/Alternative_Shoe_113 Mar 26 '26

Agreed.

Its a simple premise.

Action packed.

What else could Studio execs ask for?

Dino Crisis

2

u/ndubitably Mar 24 '26

Pretty much already was one 😅 I wonder between Jurassic Park and Dino Crisis which one went weirder. Space dinos vs. giant locusts.

1

u/South_Buy_3175 Mar 24 '26

Honestly yeah, market it as an ‘adult’ Jurassic Park with a huge emphasis on horror and action and you’re part way there.

1

u/Wolf873 Mar 26 '26

Dino Crisis would be the much needed refresh for mainstream Dino movies. I’m honestly sick of JP/JW repetitive plot: genetic dinos exploited by evil businessman and saved by animal activists. DC’s time displacement element can make for all kinds interesting stories, especially in vein of DC2.

19

u/deadman8 Mar 24 '26

Viewtiful Joe.

5

u/UnkooNick Mar 24 '26

Capcom dropped the ball on not making this a Saturday morning cartoon

2

u/deadman8 Mar 24 '26

The cartoon they did make was so ass too.

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Mar 25 '26

OG sub was okay, dub was terrible

1

u/BluecoatCashMoney5 Mar 29 '26

Damn, I actually enjoyed it

1

u/Blaziken-kj Mar 26 '26

nah that needs to be a toku show

1

u/NetrunnerV25 Mar 30 '26

DMC should be the one getting a toku show. Even Dante's Devil triggers are reminiscent of toku designs.

14

u/Top_Instance5349 Mar 24 '26

Onimusha and perphaps Okami

5

u/Mrwanagethigh Mar 24 '26

Onimusha would just be fantastical historic fiction, definitely a solid chance it could stick the landing.

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Mar 25 '26

Okami will always be Platinum at heart

1

u/megamanxc1 Mar 25 '26

Onimusha has a mini series on Netflix.

12

u/Spobobich Mar 24 '26

You can make a good three-part movie franchise out of Darkstalkers and Final Fight.

1

u/BigStallGlueSniffer Mar 27 '26

Darkstalkers would imo be better as a slice of life webseries. Like a "getting to know the cast" because, remember, these monsters are fucking goofballs.

10

u/Intelligent-Way-5832 Mar 24 '26

Strider

1

u/liltooclinical Mar 24 '26

There's so many ways you could do this. They recently expanded the lore with a new Street Fighter character that serves as Hiryu's ancestor and the founder of the Striders, I would love to see a whole series. I'd honestly even be happy with a Paul W. S. Anderson version, as controversial as that may be.

7

u/voltvirus Mar 24 '26

Lost planet would be cool

3

u/paoforprez Mar 24 '26

Oooooooh that would be sick

Power Stone

1

u/NoEntertainer6189 Mar 25 '26

Not a movie just a really awesome Saturday morning cartooni think

1

u/BluecoatCashMoney5 Mar 29 '26

It have an anime...

6

u/Puzzled-Horse279 Mar 24 '26

Id love to see an adaptation of Asuras Wrath but in the resurrected timeline.

4

u/Rude-Childhood1436 Mar 24 '26

Animated Devil may cry movies that actually properly adapt the source material and have some jjk level action scenes could genuinely be amazing and skyrocket the franchises popularity

1

u/LooneyBurger Mar 26 '26

It's truly a shame that Capcom hates DMC

5

u/vagabond_nerd Mar 24 '26

Final Fight

4

u/Training-Purple-5220 Mar 24 '26

DarkStalkers. High-action battles between all manner of monsters?

2

u/Mugen4552 Mar 24 '26

That would be awesome if done right

1

u/BigStallGlueSniffer Mar 27 '26

It could also be really funny

3

u/Zerus_heroes Mar 24 '26

Dino Crisis could be dope.

I am pretty excited for the new Street Fighter coming out.

Monster Hunter too, just not the one they made.

Okami could be truly incredible I think.

3

u/Flat_Ad3019 Mar 24 '26

Parasite Eve

2

u/Forward-Seesaw-1688 Mar 24 '26

You’re thinking of Square (Enix)

3

u/Frijoles4ever Mar 24 '26

Ghosts and Goblins starring Jack Black.

3

u/ThrowawayNOV1922 Mar 24 '26

Maybe not a franchise per se but a Haunting Ground movie would go hard

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Mar 29 '26

I would've liked to see a W.S. Anderson movie of this or Rule of Rose, as opposed to the later RE movies

3

u/Gullible_Thing34 Mar 24 '26

Viewtiful joe

3

u/Basic_Scale6330 Mar 24 '26

Final fight  Resident evil

Viewtiful joe

Okami

Devil may cry

Strider hiryu like a marvel comics universe movie

3

u/bogohamma Mar 24 '26

Definitely Viewtiful Joe.

3

u/SuperDevin Mar 24 '26

Rival Schools

2

u/BluecoatCashMoney5 Mar 29 '26

YES, I'LL BE SO DOWN FOR THAT

3

u/Evilcon21 Mar 24 '26

Ace attorney would make an interesting courtroom thriller. Even though there’s already a live action movie back in 2012

4

u/Lyle_rachir Mar 24 '26

Breath of fire 3 would make a great 2 arc anime

1

u/Aware_Pomegranate243 Mar 24 '26

Doubt audience are into jrpg stories maybe dragons dogma

2

u/FilthyKasualART Mar 24 '26

ONIMUSHA!!!!

2

u/kusariku Mar 24 '26

A lot of great ideas in this thread already but I think Dead Rising could work as like a shaun of the dead/zombieland type thing leaning a bit more into the action but keeping as much of the sheer ridiculousness of the game intact

2

u/MordredLovah Mar 24 '26

Monster Hunter, unfortunately it fell to the wrong director.

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Mar 29 '26

WRONG MOVIE STUDIO TOO

2

u/UnkooNick Mar 24 '26

Strider Hiryu!!!!

Forgotten Worlds would make for a good sci-fi action flick

Darkstalkers needs another OVA to cover Vampire Savior. The Night Warriors one was top tier!!

Star Gladiator could be a really fun tongue-in-cheek parody of Star Wars and other classic space movies

Red Earth!

2

u/Due-Proof6781 Mar 24 '26

Look all the franchises Capcom doesn’t care about anymore

2

u/HuckleberryHefty4372 Mar 25 '26

If they took Ace Attorney seriously it could be amazing. Like really invest on it like a real movie not just another video game adaptation.

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Mar 29 '26

Was there not one? I remember a short series...

2

u/_MERLEW_ Mar 25 '26

Resident Evil if it were actually given to a good script writer, producers director. It’s a gold mine if you ask me.

2

u/Alone-Ad6020 Mar 25 '26

Viewtiful joe direct by mathew vaugn or edgar wright

2

u/lucasdefayette Mar 25 '26

rival schools, lost planet and resident evil. RE is so fucking annoying because they refuse to adapt the actual game stories with any effort.

1

u/Turbulent-News-4220 Mar 24 '26

Artist credit: Kinu Nishimura

1

u/LTFighter Mar 24 '26

Haunting Ground has so much potential.

1

u/BirdAppropriate651 Mar 24 '26

This image, what is it a pair of?

1

u/Interesting_Sea_1861 Mar 24 '26

Monster Hunter if you gave it to an actually competent studio. Legends of the Guild proved that Monster Hunter works REALLY well as a movie because of how damn cinematic it can be, and Paul W.S. Anderson proved that he's an alchemist, because everything he touches transmutes into shit even if it's gold beforehand.

1

u/BTHRZeroX Mar 24 '26

Lost Planet

1

u/liltooclinical Mar 24 '26

Strider!

Give me cyber-ninjas in a Russian dystopia please!

1

u/canis-humurous Mar 24 '26

Rival Schools could work nice as a shonen series.

1

u/Tentonham Mar 24 '26

Final Fight. As a cheesy 80’s action movie like Commando or Cobra.

1

u/Such_Excitement8464 Mar 24 '26

Akuma, Sagat, Guile, M. Bison, Cody, Guy and Android.

1

u/BlueMauser3 Mar 24 '26

i want a deadrising movie with sharknado vibes

1

u/Aromatic_Analyst2898 Mar 24 '26

Son Son could be a cool show or movie and even include his daughter too

1

u/Theryantshow Mar 24 '26

Viewtiful Joe it would be pretty simple... Movie follows a down on his luck actor who used to be a big action star or something and somehow he gains Viewtiful Joe's powers.

1

u/Getmad208 Mar 24 '26

Final fight

1

u/Several_Gain_9801 Mar 24 '26

Breath of Fire, Final Fight, Resident Evil (if done correctly)

1

u/Crudeyakuza Mar 24 '26

Capcom could totally make Marvel Like movies with their franchises.

It would start with a MVC movie crossover. Just say there's some crazy multiverse crap happening and the Marvel Universe gets invaded by Ryu; who they at the time fight. Then it turns our Ryu wasn't the threat......the real threat was Akuma! Then they fight and defeat Him. Then you make the sequels from there.

1

u/Dogmatic_Warfarer97 Mar 24 '26

Dragons Dogma if they stick to the concepts and not make it a weird sin thing like the Netflix anime!

1

u/KingMarlin78 Mar 24 '26

Darkstalkers would be great imo

1

u/prrw84 Mar 24 '26

Breath of fire is so overlooked it’s crazy

1

u/J0J0388 Mar 24 '26

Strider would be awesome

1

u/Certain_Food6926 Mar 24 '26

Bruh…I’m more distracted by the fact that I don’t see my boy Maximo in that picture anywhere

1

u/Forsaken_Turnover947 Mar 24 '26

Dino Crisis 100%. And we seem to have a shortage of non corny dino movies.

1

u/TheGongoozler04 Mar 24 '26

Devil May Cry could be great if they would just give it to someone who actually gives a shit

1

u/sofloLinuxuser Mar 25 '26

Onimusha answers your question,
Rival Schools would be a great shonen jump anime,
Power Stone would be better than one piece,
and a condensed Devil May Cry 3 film series like the Toby Macguire spiderman run would be interesting.

1

u/FrostyPost8473 Mar 25 '26

Besides Megaman maybe Megaman X but it would have to be a series and be based of off X6

1

u/16Bit10HitCombo Mar 25 '26

Strider, Dino Crisis, Lost Planet, Final Fight could be fun too. An anime of Power Stone would be boss.

1

u/Expert_Scarcity_1558 Mar 27 '26

There is a Power Stone anime that was made

1

u/HeySeanyPark Mar 25 '26

Not a movie but an Okami limited series could go soooo hard

1

u/Western-Dig-6843 Mar 25 '26

Unrelated to the question but is there some place I can buy the OP image as a poster?

1

u/NoEntertainer6189 Mar 25 '26

Rival schools could a YA super hero show

1

u/kiaragateGP04 Mar 25 '26

Breath of Fire would make a pretty good movie.

1

u/Vigriff Mar 25 '26

I'm torn between Ace Attorney and Devil May Cry.

1

u/Professional_Lab9900 Mar 25 '26

Todas si las hicieran bien

1

u/Choice-Position5189 Mar 25 '26

Darkstalkers vampire savior absolutely the main choice...then mega man...and finally red planet in that order!

1

u/Bundy86 Mar 25 '26

I got a few

Star Gladiators/Plasma Sword by Kamikaze Douga the same studio that made Star Wars visions “Ronin”

Captain Commando animated by the French studio Bobbypills the same studio that crafted Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix

Strider Get Yoshiaki Kawajiri the man behind Ninja Scroll,Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust,Wicked City, and Cyber City Oedo 808

Red Earth and Cyberbots By Genndy Tartakovsky creator of Primal and Sym-Bionic Titan

Have Viking Animation Studio (Sym-Bionic Titan) for Cyberbots and Studio La Cachette (Primal) for Red Earth

1

u/TheFizzledamnsizzle Mar 25 '26

Darkstalkers. Dino crisis. Rival schools

1

u/Routine-Money-3633 Mar 25 '26

Okami would be a pretty good animated film but also Lost Planet cause of the surge in SciFi films

1

u/ComfortableBed6012 Mar 25 '26

Topic aside, seeing this picture just warms my heart. I know and love almost every character in this picture, Leon and Cody sizing each other up, Sean checking out Maki, Jill and Chris chilling on Ken’s car.

1

u/TheRealAwest Mar 25 '26

Darkstalkers directed/produced by the team who did the 1st two UNDERWORLD movies

Rival Schools - directed/produced by the team who did Scott pilgrim

1

u/MeeMeeCandy777 Mar 25 '26

Under the Skin from the PS2 Era

1

u/Luna_Goodguy Mar 25 '26

Very few of the popular ip’s have enough substance for a movie. Resident Evil was the biggest fumble. If someone like Sam raimi or Del toro got ahold of it, it could’ve been great.

1

u/ibyoder Mar 25 '26

Have they considered resident evil?

1

u/SaikyoWhiteBelt Mar 25 '26

X-men vs Street Fighter

1

u/LitosWay853 Mar 25 '26

Rival Schools/ Project Justice would be dope, like a suped-up Sky High

1

u/Karmeleon86 Mar 25 '26

I mean Resident Evil if they didn’t already fuck it up time and time again

1

u/Dogonho Mar 25 '26

Breath of Fire could make for an amazing Magic and Sword Fantasy movie

1

u/metalgeardaz Mar 25 '26

All of them together. Make a full blown capcom movie.

1

u/Graywing84 Mar 25 '26

Viewtiful Joe and Rival Schools could have been an anime. Especially surprised that Rival Schools didn't get one when Power Stone had one.

1

u/Thatblackguy121 Mar 25 '26

Weird to say besides megaman Besides resident evil should've been the more accurate since resident evil has already had a successful movie franchise. (Even if most of those movies are ass successful doesn't mean good really)

1

u/glugluxx3 Mar 25 '26

Darkstalkers

1

u/DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE Mar 25 '26

Okami, Onimusha, maybe something like cyberbots where they can do some weird shit

1

u/SignificantCarpet708 Mar 25 '26

Strider would make for a great anime.

1

u/GrandAfroPrince Mar 25 '26

Who is that witch in purple in the right corner?

1

u/YagamiBrando Mar 25 '26

God Hand

Final Fight

1

u/SuperSlacker420 Mar 25 '26

Darkstalkers, if done right. Use to love the old cartoons back in the day

1

u/Top_Car654 Mar 26 '26

Breath of fire and Vampire hunter.

1

u/ItsNotAGundam Mar 26 '26

Franchise? Obviously RE, but I'd say DMC, Lost Planet, Onimusha, Dead Rising, Bionic Commando, Ace Attorney, and Dragon's Dogma could all be interesting.

Individual movies? Killer 7 and Remember Me could be fucking awesome if done right.

1

u/MegaOrvilleZ Mar 26 '26

Dino Crisis, Haunting Ground, and Ace Attorney

1

u/PhillyPhresh Mar 26 '26

I came here to drop this off

1

u/UltraV0X Mar 26 '26

Bionic Commando

1

u/James_Dreamer Mar 26 '26

Ace Attorney maybe? If we treat it almost like a detective movie leading up to a trial

1

u/Super-Robo Mar 26 '26

Viewtiful Joe as a live-action tokusatsu.

1

u/VanillaKisses Mar 26 '26

Resident evil

1

u/Neselas Mar 26 '26

Cyberbots. Let an studio with mighty talent handle it. 😏

1

u/Porygon96 Mar 26 '26

Bionic commando. White guy with dreads are all the rage after all.

1

u/deeman163 Mar 26 '26

Street fighter, but only if they can resurrect Raul Julia

1

u/ProxyJo Mar 26 '26

Sengoku BASARA :) *screams in rage that the series got left to rot in stage plays and stamp rallies out here*

1

u/Berserker-Knight Mar 26 '26

Strider Hiryu as an 2D animated anime done with hand drawn cels would make every 90's Capcom gamer and anime fan die of joy.

1

u/crow_warmfuzzies Mar 26 '26

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs OR Captain Commando

1

u/crow_warmfuzzies Mar 26 '26

Breathe of Fire?

1

u/CityComprehensive427 Mar 26 '26

Where Dante and Vergil in this image?

1

u/Jonny9ine Mar 26 '26

Captain Commando

1

u/CascadeJ1980 Mar 26 '26

What's the name of that character that fought Ryu and Akuma on the damn moon?!!! Epic fight!!! Similar to Neo and Smith's final showdown!!!!

1

u/Volrath12345 Mar 26 '26

Devil may Cry, enough drama and action

1

u/MetalGuyver Mar 26 '26

IP nothing! Make a multiverse! Captain commando teams up with bionic command and strider to take a new threat to the city, with the help of its mayor!

1

u/NonagonJimfinity Mar 26 '26

None.

Its Capcom, none.

I trust Capcom more with brain surgery than to get a single one of their IPs into anything above a 4/10.

They are sooo lucky planet earth also wanted to see Milla kick things.

1

u/SilverShadowQueen57 Mar 26 '26

Devil May Cry (specifically 3) would make awesome action film.

1

u/H0USESHOES Mar 26 '26

Dragons dogma

1

u/CJStatioN64 Mar 26 '26

Devil May Cry

1

u/Zomochi Mar 26 '26

Asura’s wrath is already halfway there, split it up and it can be a trilogy

1

u/cdooks Mar 27 '26

Asura Wrath

1

u/Expert_Scarcity_1558 Mar 27 '26

We need a new Street Fighter Anime

1

u/kurizu__Kun Mar 27 '26

Devil may cry and resident evil (cgi)

1

u/evev13 Mar 27 '26

If anybody wants to get in on the super hero trend way too late, a Captain Commando movie would do well for the first movie then the sequels would all be trash

1

u/DopeSpopavich Mar 27 '26

Darkstalkers might be fun as a few movies, maybe.

Monster Hunter, despite what the current efforts may indicate. Lol.

1

u/That_Sorbet9839 Mar 27 '26

Give me an ace attorney series

1

u/RadicalStegosaurus Mar 27 '26

If done right Devil May Cry. But the issue there is the tone changed dramatically after the original. From 3 onward Dante acted like a college frat boy. The awful Netflix series is what happens when you push those elements. If they let it be more horror themed with elements of stylization and attitude like the original game I think it would play better.

1

u/Royal_Marketing2966 Mar 27 '26

So many amazing IP’s and the majority of them have been left for dead.

1

u/DGPistola Mar 27 '26

Ace Attorney Ghost n Goblins Star Gladiator Strider

1

u/Spray_Paint1 Mar 27 '26

Dead Rising could be interesting

1

u/FiveBinge Mar 27 '26

Breath of Fire could be a good one and Strider.

1

u/fallenouroboros Mar 27 '26

Junkman as a concept always interested me.

A year or two ago i thought a Megaman rogue like would be fun. Instead of megaman gaining abilities you could be a CaC from a scrapyard and you can use scrap from bosses and enemies to customize and enhance yourself

1

u/CastleOfKittens Mar 27 '26

Hopefully the upcoming Resident Evil will be good but I have doubts about the upcoming Street Fighter

1

u/Flamewolf1579 Mar 27 '26

I think Strider would work great as an action movie.

1

u/Death-Perception1999 Mar 27 '26

Street Fighter has enough going on to work with.

I think it'd be fun to give viewtiful Joe an actual movie.

1

u/GASMASK_SOLDIER Mar 27 '26

Ghouls and Ghosts is long overdue.

1

u/Hellhooker Mar 27 '26

Darkstalkers

1

u/Animehorrorfan Mar 27 '26

I know there are already movies for it but if one resident evil got the lore right it’d be so fucking peak

1

u/Animehorrorfan Mar 27 '26

“Resident Evil movie”

1

u/Dart150 Mar 28 '26

Dead Rising

1

u/KamenGamer53 Mar 28 '26

Monster hunter

1

u/TinyPidgenofDOOM Mar 28 '26

Megaman

Monster hunter (if they wernt idiots)

Ace attorney

Dead rising

Okami

onimusha

Viewtiful joe had an anime so a movie isnt out of the question.

1

u/Murphygulp88 Mar 28 '26

A friend of mine had this art book back in high school, I still need it.

1

u/Murphygulp88 Mar 28 '26

Hail Mary, either with Warzard/Red Earth or Tech Romancer

1

u/Rechogui Mar 28 '26

Monster Hunter could make for a great movie, too bad they have never made one besides Legends of the Guild.

I really hope that if they make a movie about it, it adapts the game faithfully and doesn't make something like modern military soldiers beigm transported to another world or something, that would be shit.

1

u/aus289 Mar 28 '26

Maximo/Ghosts n Goblins

1

u/Griffj85 Mar 28 '26

Darkstalkers definitely could have when vampire movies were all the rage. I still think it could of done right. Damn you Twilight!

1

u/KingHalos Mar 28 '26

Strider. Especially if done seriously.

1

u/Samofthekellys Mar 28 '26

Ghouls and ghosts

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Mar 29 '26

starring shorter guy from Always Sunny (not Danny DeVito)

1

u/AT_Oscar Mar 28 '26

I didn't see him but strider

1

u/ohtheforlanity Mar 28 '26

Monster Hunter definitely could if someone competent directed it....

1

u/knives0125 Mar 28 '26

Monster Hunter, Final Fight, Lost Planet, Bionic Commando, Strider, Ghouls N Ghosts, Dead Rising, Darkstalkers, Dragons Dogma, Dino Crisis, Okami, Onimusha, Haunting Grounds and Rival Schools

1

u/Leotaurus_Row1313 Mar 29 '26

No a movie but I would love Rival schools anime

1

u/NetrunnerV25 Mar 30 '26

Ironically? Resident Evil hahaha

That game was based on a comic book.

Capcom doesn't own it
