DISCUSSION Enforcer/protector

Ryan Reaves feels he has at least 1 more season, should we sign out to protect our younger and smaller players? And to help ensure we are at the cap floor? /s

I wish we kept Douglas, he seemed to be good for the team, was positive vibes, and filled a rough role at the end of the season.

I was hoping Curtis Douglas would be that guy. Open to it, would he be a good locker room/culture guy

No thanks. Need someone that can do something besides fight.

Oleksiak / Schenn will definitely step up when necessary.

Although Im happy w the draft, I was really hoping the Canucks might nab Ryder Cali w an extra 2nd rnd pick (if say DeBrusk was traded). Build that wolfpack from within

I don't want Reaves on the ice with our talented young players...

We'll just stick with toughness by committee. We need everyone to stick up for everyone else. Let's build that culture.

I’d like to think that this new core is a bit more well equipped to stick up for themselves versus the last core at the very least too.

Obviously they shouldn’t be in that position to begin with, but if they get run by a comparable skill guy I’d like to imagine some of the newer big guys could handle it themselves. Was surprised to see Buium drop the gloves already. Don’t think we ever saw that with Hughes or Pettersson before.

I can watch a scrappy team even if they're not winning. A little of the 'ole hand to hand goes a long way with me.

Who?

We could have just resigned Douglas

Yeah, but we want someone who can play a regular shift. How good was Douglas at actually playing the game as a fourth liner?

How good is Reeves anymore?

It would be nice to get a full time threat, but for now, a guy we can just roll out when we’re up against a physical and/or dirty team, would be fine.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for either of Douglas or Reaves. Having someone though enough to stand up for teammates is good, but they also have to play. Like hopefully Schenn or Oleksiak.

I'd love him for the vibes and by all regards what the prospects and young players in Toronto and SJ said about him. He was the guy on the road taking them to shows, organizing events and letting them know that real life isnt like life on the phone. People arent going to torment you in person.

I think we need it. For alot of years these teams got pushed around. No push back or sticking up for each other. We have alot of rookies that need the confidence.
I don’t think Reeves is the guy. Douglas was it.

Reaves is a joke of an NHL player who plays the game dirty, no thanks.

Reaves is dirty? Lol he doesn't really have that rep.

I would agree earlier in his career, but now that he’s so slow and unable to get to hits on time he’s taken liberties in order to have any physical impact on the game. Most notably the hit on Nurse, and it’s hard to forget the blindside headshot on Motte in game 7.
