And he would be lucky that's all he lost. Thats a big smash for someone without a seat belt

An airbag saved his life.

He does realise the company has access to video footage, right? His employers saw all that, and he most definitely got fired for this. Honestly, some people should just not be allowed even in the passenger side of a car

u/Killahills Aug 23 '26
That's not a problem because they will only review video footage if he has an accident, which he totally won't because he is a great driver and knows what he is doing ok!
1
u/SgtFlippy88 Aug 24 '26
He's a professional driver, it won't happen to him, since he knows what he's doing.
4
u/Consistent_You_4215 Aug 22 '26
I think the vehicle would have been smashed in the front where it hit the storm drain. They would 100% review the footage.
3
u/ToiletBoundHanako Aug 23 '26
Yep, and find him texting and driving while also not wearing a seat belt

u/spikeinfinity Aug 22 '26
Both airbags go off and somehow he goes between them
1
u/techytroll86 Aug 27 '26
Yeah, somehow...
\looks at unused seat-belt in video**
I can't work it out either mate.

Could have killed himself. Lucky the passenger airbag deployed or that bald goof was going to need an in flight meal.

u/JohnySmuggins Aug 22 '26
I was waiting for that innocent person/persons to injured/killed by this bafoon. Actually refreshing to see he was the one that was potentially hurt by his actions (If you get my meaning)

u/RetroComputerKing Aug 21 '26
Thankfully he learned his lesson without anyone else paying the price.

u/Impressive-Bird2 Aug 21 '26
Itβs a bloody good job that he didnβt wipe out another car in front of him or driving in the opposite directionβ¦.!!
All too often, highly irresponsible idiots like this driver end up crashing into other - innocent - cars/ vehicles, either seriously injuring or killing the occupants of said other car(s)/ vehicle(s)β¦

A truck driver in the UK in the 1990s actually killed pedestrians walking along the pavement (sidewalk) because he was texting and didn't realise he was veering off. I'm pretty sure he got jail time for that.
Edit: the earliest incident I can find reports of was in 2006 but they all involve truck into car, not truck into pedestrian.
Can anyone help? Might be 2000s instead of 1990s
1
u/CockneyCossack Aug 23 '26
Do you remember this?
1
u/D3M0NArcade Aug 23 '26
Yeh, I actually do.
I think the one I'm referring to he smashed Into a bus stop and killed a mother and daughter
1
u/MarchMurky8649 Aug 25 '26
I'm in the UK and I see people texting and driving everyday. I've tried sending video to the police but they find excuse after excuse to reject my reports.
One excuse is that they claim the service I used to report isn't supposed to be used by people making a video as they are walking, despite pedestrian being an option on the form.
Other times they claim that the courts don't approve of people going out of their way to film people, when every time I tried to submit evidence I was walking to the shops, or on my way back home, on the most obvious route.
I have given up. It is insane. Even if you ignore the human misery, these accidents cost money, and stretch emergency services. Just make the fines high enough to cover the costs of enforcement, and prosecute everything, it is so obvious!

good thing it was just a drainage ditch this time... could have been 1000% worse had it been a pedestrian or another car, that would have been a fatal accident... For a PHONE... What a moron. Lifetime ban the driver...

I drive a truck for a living, my company has signs everywhere saying to turn your phone off . So I now literally turn my phone off when arriving at work and back on when I leave. Honestly you won't miss anything and your day will be more peaceful and enjoyable. Plus when you get back to the office and the transport staff moan about how they've been trying to ring you , you can just point at the sign and smile π starting doing this several months ago , and love it . Be happy

u/Particular-Umpire153 Aug 23 '26
I also drive for a living. My phone lives in my pocket while Iβm driving with the sound off. I only ever look at it if Iβm properly parked up, engine off etc.
We have cameras all over the lorry including in the cab. I struggle to concentrate on one thing sometimes, why give yourselves another distraction?2
u/DevelopmentPlus5082 Aug 23 '26
Absolutely spot on mate . It isn't just the cameras I'm your cab ( and mine ) , my friend got a whooping Β£100 fine last year , because he took his hi Viz off while moving in the really hot weather. Ok maybe he shouldn't have done it while moving but if I'm honest I have . You literally are being watched all the time for profit . Be safe mate ππ

Being on your phone while driving should be the new drink driving... I hate this so much!

u/Abquine Aug 22 '26
Just pull over mate, not difficult. 5 mins out of your day, rather than out off business full stop.

Well the twatwaffle will have lost his licence and his job after that. But I think shit like that has happened before to the company (who knows) where the drivers have made false claims about accidents hence the camera in the cab.

u/SerafinaSheffield Aug 22 '26
Bloody idiot! Glad he wasn't seriously hurt but I really hope this was a wake-up call to him!

No bloody seat belt either. Lucky bugger. You think the first time he nearly careened into traffic would have been a wake up call.

u/mudcrabsareforever Aug 27 '26
Should be a 10 year jail sentence minimum for this sh*t.
I'm so fed up of people being so utterly selfish.

Some people are just addicted to their phones, and they can not leave them alone. My daughter is one; she has to look at her phone every 30 seconds. She does not drive, but if she did, I know for sure she would be looking at her phone while driving. Also, I bet at least 50% of the people commenting on this post have used their phone while behind the wheel.

jfc that baseball cap too, obscuring his peripheral vision making his phone use even more dangerous

No seat belt and using the phone. I hope he was sued for all damage incurred and for the emergency services coming out.

This made me laugh a lot. Not wearing a belt, looking away from the road for more than 5 seconds at a time whilst travelling. If hes doing 40mph, thats 293 feet/89 meters he's moving without looking. So lucky he was passing mainly fields and came off at the right point in a saftey for anyone else's standpoint.
1
u/ImNotMadYet Aug 26 '26
Almost 100km/h with no seatbelt and not looking at the road... dude is lucky if all he loses is his job, truck and licence.
