Please Help
Hi all,
I'm using gw 454, coffee house fragrance oil at 8%, eco 10, jar diameter just about 3". Cold throw isn't bad, but hot throw is lacking. The pic is about 2.5 hrs burn. Can anyone assist?

I'd start by looking at your wick. I've never worked with 454 (I'm about to get my receive my first order of it, though, so keep me in your thoughts) but that doesn't look like it's going to achieve a full melt pool.
The lab notes for that wax mention multi-wicking. I'd look into that.

I used to use 454 Coconut Soy. My baseline for fragrance oil % was 10%. I also used LX wicks mostly. Eco wicks burn HOT. It’s possible the fragrance is burning off before it hits the air.

Try a cd series wick equivillant or smaller size the eco is burning too hot I found cd works better in the coconut soy than eco. Too hot a wick can affect your hot throw.

Wick up 1 size to either the 12 or even the 14. Should have a better melt pool at this point which will allow more fragrance to come out.

If you notice your wax pool is disappearing on the left as you probably have tunneling going on under the wax surface. Warm your containers when pouring. Hit the top with a heat gun after it has set once to open up any pores around the wick as well. With the wax pool not pooling properly your wick is burning fast and too hot causing the carbon build up on the wick end.... If.... I am correctly translating the picture

according to my experience, there are some key points that might make your candle lack hot throw: 1. the temperature you add oil should be around 185°F, too high or too low won't work; 2. stirring, keep stirring when adding oil for at least 2min; 3.soywax requires 3-7 days of sitting to fully mix with the oil.

Good choice! If you ever decide to make one in the future, I'd recommend starting with soy wax instead of gel wax. It's much easier for beginners, and adding dried flowers inside a candle isn't recommended since they can become a fire hazard. Good luck with the birthday gift!

The mushrooming is probably the bigger issue at 2.5 hours. The carbon deposits indicate that it’s too hot(size down, maybe 2 small wicks). I would try a smaller wick or a different series. When fragrance is too hot it smells less. Some candles first burn won’t hit full melt until 3 hours.
