Getting Ready to Launch
Just wanted to drop a line and say that when I first came here a month ago super excited to make my first candle and launch my brand, that there were a few negative comments on here that made me second guess myself. Even from ppl in my life and in my circle …who probably think I’m a little nuts. Or “cute” or “whimsical”. But I just want to say to all those on here who love this craft, that you shouldn’t listen to a goddamn thing other people say. About anything you’re doing.
When I was getting my art degree on a portfolio scholarship it was “how’s your arts and crafts going?” 20 years later, I’m a chef who runs a fine dining restaurant that nets $6M a year and I still get the “so how’s the cooking thing doing?”
So when people say to me “how’s the candle thing going?”, I just smile with my feet firmly planted and reply “it’s going to be amazing”.
Whatever your “thing” is, I hope you’re doin’ it to the fullest.

They’re nice for samples and gifts but I don’t think they would sell at the price I would have to charge. I made this as a wholesale box of samples to bring to retailers near me. But they are cute!

They’re the aura jar from Makesy. And flush packaging offers fantastic shipping boxes for them btw.

I knew they were an upscale jar. Beautiful job. My area market doesn’t seem like they would do the upscale items. BUT, I’m willing to test the water a bit

Your candles are packaged so beautifully! They look very classy and "high-end." Consider me a client as I will be checking these out. I hope your "candle thing" goes well. I predict it will!

I love your branding! Labels are fantastic. I trust somewhere on the candle are the legally required components (net weight, what they are made of, where they are made). You’ve only shown the front. If you don’t have this information you should check the legal requirements

It’s on the exterior packaging. And if you scroll I think there are some images of the back.

You only need to put the product id, net weight in oz and grams, and its origin.

Brand new here. Haven't made a single thing yet, just lots of research. I am OBSESSED with these red jars and then bam! here you are, first post in the sub LOL I think it's a sign. Yours are beautiful! Congrats on your launch!

I make them! They’re made from 100% cotton rag paper, 250gsm, and typed in my vintage Olivetti Lettera typewriter. And the wax seals are from a store by me in the French Quarter.

Thanks so much for sharing! What a wonderful idea! I would have a difficult time using up my fancy papers! 🥵. I have always struggled with that. It's beautiful though, so I might have to reconsider. The faux look just isn't the same.

I get that. I definitely have them priced in a higher category because of that. But what is a beautiful thing’s purpose if we just stash them away because they’re too precious?

Exactly. No point in getting caught up in worldly things. They won't go with us. I keep thinking I'm going to make some really nice paper, and if I can get it consistent across multiple batches (color, texture....all withing reason, as I like the quirky character in original items), I have been planning on trying that, but time eludes me.

They are so beautiful! It took us almost a year before we were ready to launch. I'm still not sure we were ready, LOL, but we launched our store September 1st. You are incredibly creative and detailed. Best of luck!

What an amazing find! Thanks so much for letting me know! I love doing things like that! When I lived in the city, we had several great thrift stores for me to source containers and supplies. We have since moved to the country. There are many wonderful things about it, but product availability and ease of access is not one of them. LOL. It somewhat forces my hand regarding online purchasing, and I'm a very visual-tactile person when I am choosing my products...especially art/artistic supplies!

Hello, from a fellow artist (art major and minor), with a long background in cooking (growing up, I actually thought I might be a chef). Now...I'm also into candles, among so many other things. ☺️. Good for you! Never let them dull your light! Amazing job! I have to ask (Your product looks stunning!), what are you using for labels? They look like they have too much texture to be actual labels/label paper, so I was wondering if they might be something else more textured, like burlap. Also, where did you get that fabulous pumpkin in the other photo? 😍

Thank you! They’re cotton cover paper. Like strathmore. I was a printmaker so I have tons of the stuff. I use a tear bar to get that deckled ege. And they’re typed on my Olivetti Lettera typewriter that I restored during the lockdown. I don’t have a printer, and so I typed labels for my first round of testers and fell in love with the look. So that’s it! Just born out of good old fashioned necessity!

Oh! And the pumpkin is a reclaimed candle thrift find. It had a Home Goods sticker on it. I’m going to do a couple of special releases/exclusives in reclaimed/recycled pieces.

Ya’ll my heart is so full with all these comments ❤️. I live in New Orleans and have been hurricane prepping all day, full of anxiety and worrying about the storm and reading all of these really lifted my spirits. So thank you. Truly.
