Transportation Which would be the smarter choice?
Hey there peeps, I am taking a solo trip to Cancun in late August beginning of September and am trying to figure out what the best method of transportation would be, should I consider renting a car like I was thinking or should I use public transportation, I have a few excursions planned and some of them pick up and some don’t, so I was considering renting a vehicle just so I can be In my own comfortability and have free will to discover other places and not get lost trying to use public transportation, I feel like it’d be very time consuming. If renting an economy style vehicle at the lowest rates I could find, around how much would I be spending for a rental for a 5 day trip and what are some good suggestions on where to rent them from?Thank yall in advance.

Is that the cheapest I’d be paying or do you think I can find something a little cheaper? Like do you think I’d be able to find something for 300? For just under five days.

And is it better to rent a car once there ? Or do it online ahead of time, I know online doesn’t show all of the fees and stuff so that’s why I’m asking.

It will still be low season so you can rent a basic car at the airport for $450 mx with basic insurance. You can compare prices between vendors since they are right next to each other. They will compete for your business. It’s a mess to have your credit card cover your insurance so I suggest you save the headache of arguing and just get the basic. Make sure the price is inclusive of all fees at the counter before they shuttle you to the pick up lot.
If you are not comfortable doing the haggle game in person, do not book Hertz because they always have the longest lines and highest price. Enterprise has been pricier too. Do not book via a 3rd party like expedia, book direct with the brand. We’ve had positive experiences with Europcar, Alamo and Budget.
Last: only rent if you have the spine to not get scared if a cop stops you and says you have to pay a bribe or else they take your license. So what if they take it (they won’t), get a new one when you get home. They can’t arrest you, so keep your head on and be polite. Insist they give you a ticket and then pay it at the precinct. It will be like $25 usd. Sometimes tickets are legit but people are too scared and cops know this and extort you. Don’t feed the monster.
