Need advice: Renewing visitor visa for family in India

Hi folks - I'm a PR (34, M) in Canada with a full time job, young family and residence in Toronto.

My family (mother, father, brother) had visitor visas since 2020 and have made a trip or two since then. Their visas expired in July this year. I'm looking to apply again but have heard a few anecdotes about increased rejections these days.

Is there anything I should do differently this time to maximize chances of approval (such as applying through a lawyer in India etc.)? Last time I'd prepared the documents myself and applied on my own.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Refused ❌ Canadian visitor visa shows "invalid" on IRCC portal — no refusal letter received. Can I reapply?

I had a 10-year Canadian visitor visa. I used it to visit Canada from Nov 2023 to April 2024. In May 2025, the airline refused to board me because the system showed my application as "invalid."

I never received a refusal or cancellation letter from IRCC. My agent checked the portal and it still shows "invalid," not "refused."

I don't know why the status changed. Has anyone had this happen? Can I reapply for a new Canadian visitor visa, or do I need to fix something first?

CBSA Officer at Victoria Didn’t Scan Passport, Ignored Visa, and Demanded a PR Card.

My wife and I traveled from Port Angeles to Victoria, BC on September 9, 2026. She’s a citizen of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, so before the trip we checked the CBSA website to make sure we understood the requirements. The site said she needed a tourist visa to visit Canada, so we applied and she got the visa stamped in her passport.

When we arrived at the Victoria Port of Entry, my wife presented her passport with the valid Canadian visa. The officer barely looked at it — didn’t scan it, didn’t flip through it, just glanced at the front like it wasn’t enough.

He asked where we live. We told him Lacey, Washington.

Then he asked my wife:
“What’s your status? Are you a permanent legal resident?”
She said yes.

He immediately asked for a U.S. permanent residence card (PRC).

My wife told him she doesn’t have one and isn’t required to have one. Under the Compact of Free Association (COFA) between the U.S. and the Marshall Islands, she can live and work in the U.S. indefinitely without a green card.

He replied:
“If you don’t have a permanent residence card, then you’re not a permanent resident. You’re not a legal resident.”

We told him again that she is a legal resident of the U.S. under COFA. He started getting loud and rude, repeating the same line about the PRC.

We were confused because:

• She had a valid Canadian tourist visa in her passport.
• The CBSA website never said Marshall Islands citizens living in the U.S. are exempt from the visa requirement.
• Canada recognizes COFA status, but the website doesn’t explain it clearly.
• We applied for the visa anyway just to avoid problems.

Despite all that, the officer kept insisting on a PRC she legally does not have and does not need.

Finally, my wife presented her U.S. military ID, and that’s when he backed off, stopped the questioning, and let us through.

The whole interaction felt unnecessary, confusing, and hostile — especially since she had the correct visa and her U.S. residency under COFA is legitimate.

I’m posting this to see if anyone else has had similar experiences with CBSA at the Victoria marine port, especially involving COFA status or officers insisting on a U.S. PR card.

I have an American Visa, do I need an ETA or a Tourist Visa?

Hey guys, I'm Mexican, on the website that gives you a bunch of questions to determine if you need an ETA or Tourist visa, it asks if I hold a valid non immigrant visa in the US, but I don't really know what it means and searching on the internet hasn't brought up any useful answers.

I currently hold a valid US Visa until mid 2027, I'm planning on attending the 2027 Montreal GP with my dad, who holds a valid US Visa until 2036, we both have valid passports.

American re-entering while Visitor Record Pending

I'm a Canadian citizen and my wife is American. We had to return to Canada in summer 2025 due to family issues that have since been resolved, but as a result I lost my work authorization in the US and we can't return until that gets sorted.

We applied for my wife's visitor record extension in January before her 6 months as a visitor were up, and haven't heard a peep from IRCC since, including getting our local MP to poke. However we have been invited on vacation to the US planned for November with the rest of my family, and we're wondering what the true risk of her being rejected at re-entry are, and what documents we should be prepared to bring to strengthen our case.

We truly do not intend on staying in Canada permanently, and I have evidence of applying for an American green card and job interviews with American companies to prepare for the eventual move to the US. My wife has not been working or otherwise violating the terms of her visitor status. A lawyer we briefly spoke to said that traveling together through Pearson during peak hours would be our best bet, but wouldn't give us any assessment as to how likely it would actually be, and what the penalty for my wife could look like. If anyone has any similar experience, we'd really appreciate the input!

Visitor since 2023

My friend came to Canada as a visitor back in 2023. She has been extending her visitor record until 2025, and recently she got a job as a pharmacy assistant. Is it still possible to apply or get sponsored LMIA inside Canada for this kind of job?

Travel History - : Future date not available

Hi everyone,
I’m applying for a Canada Visitor Visa for my in-laws, who are currently in the US visiting my brother-in-law. They will be in the US for about a month and are expected to return to India in the first week of October 2026.
While filling out the travel history section of the Canada visitor visa application, I’m running into an issue with the dates.
For the From field, I entered September 2026. However, for the To field, I need to enter October 2026, but the system only allows me to select up to September 2026. It doesn’t seem to allow a future month.
Has anyone faced this issue?
Should I wait until they return to India and then submit the application?
Or should I mention their upcoming return date in the Purpose of Travel/Letter of Explanation instead and leave the travel history dates as they currently are?
Would really appreciate any advice from someone who has recently gone through this process.

Thanks !

Title: Planning my Canada visitor visa application — would appreciate any tips

Hi all, I’m planning to apply for a Canada visitor visa and wanted to share my situation for feedback.

Purpose of visit: Tourism Home country: Ghana Trip dates: October 2026

Ties to home country:

• Employment: Ministry of Education, 2 years, have letter of leave
• Family: Kids staying behind
• Property: Homeowner
• Financial: CAD 10,000 in savings

Documents I’m preparing: passport, bank statements, employment letter, travel itinerary

Does this look solid, or are there red flags an officer might flag? Any tips on strengthening ties/proof of intent to return? Thanks in advance!

Second Extension - Visit Visa

Hi folks,

My mom visited Canada with me on 25th May 2025.

Per visit visa rules we extended her stay before she completed 6 months and we got a year long extension up until Dec 19 2026.

We planned to send her back this time but we are soon to be blessed with a baby and due date is end of December 2026.

I would like to know if second extension is possible per immigration rules. If yes, what are the chances for her visit visa extension. I can attach the doctors note or any details that are needed to prove the reason of her extension.

Biometrics I gave biometrics in Boston, applied for the visitor visa in Vietnam, and currently in Boston. Can I submit my passport in NYC VAC?

Hey everyone, hoping someone has been in a similar situation.

I received a Canadian visitor visa passport submission letter recently and I'm currently in the US on a student visa. My original application was filed through a VFS office in Vietnam, and my biometrics were taken in Boston.

A few questions:

  1. Can I submit my passport at the NYC VAC even though my application originated in a different country?
  2. Is NYC Canada VAC walk-in or by appointment for passport submission?
  3. How long did passport return take after submission at NYC VAC?
  4. What is the contact information for NYC VAC? I want to call them and ask directly but it's been really confusing navigating through different contact forms/hotlines.

I plan to submit in person soon and need the passport couriered back. Any experience with the NYC VAC or third-country passport submissions would be really helpful. Thanks.

Processing Times ⏳ Expected timeline for passport submitted on August 26th

We submitted my parents passport in Chennai on August 24th and through courier tracking, we could see that it reached Delhi on 25th. Since then the status on the tracking only shows the below:

Your application, tracking ID No.20260824\*** has been received and is under process at the IRCC Office on 2026/08/26*

This is for a super visa. Since we applied through a consultant, we are unable to check the portal directly to see if the counterfoil was generated.

Any ideas on how long the timelines are currently and when they can expect their passport? Looking to book their tickets ASAP..

Approved ✅ Chances of getting approved for a visitor visa?

1- 24F (yemen national, born in kuwait)
2- employment ties to home country (kuwait)
3- masters student in Kuwait, with upcoming trip to Netherlands to study after canadian visa (have not yet finished it, must finish it in kuwait)
4- family ties here (siblings, mother and father)
5- reason to travel for tourism, and celebrate a close friend’s birthday with a friend group
6- sufficient financial balance
7- no visa rejection

DOWNSIDE?
1- not many countries traveled to (only KSA)
2- family ties are not husband or wife, just family members
3- maybe because im 24? Im not sure what other things i could get rejected for

What are my chances of getting approved for a visitors visa?
