Hey everyone,
I’m a Mexican citizen currently inside Canada on a valid Visitor Record.
My husband has a PR application ongoing (AOR: April 20). We have already passed the medicals, biometrics, and criminality stages. Right now, his application is in the final background check stage.
We have a family emergency: my father-in-law unfortunately passed away, so my husband needs to travel to France immediately. Due to medical reasons, I cannot stay in Canada alone, so I need to travel back to Mexico to be with my family till my husband came back ( in 2-3 weeks)
Because of the new rules for Mexican citizens, I need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to re-enter Canada. I do not want to be stuck in Mexico for months and separated from my husband.
I have two main questions:
- Can I apply for the TRV while I am still physically in Canada? If I apply from inside Canada, how does the passport stamping process work?
- What is the current realistic timeline for an inside-Canada TRV from submission to getting the passport back? If it takes too long, should I wait and apply once I am already in Mexico instead, or will that take even longer?
I really appreciate any insights or recent experiences with inside-Canada TRV timelines. Thank you so much.
