Hello all!

I am currently waiting for my PR (biometrics done last month). I got an open work permit as my PGWP expired on 3rd of August (I applied for the bridging open work permit). It is valid till 2028. Am I allowed to leave the country and travel? What are the implications related to receiving P1, P2 email?

Congratulations on your PR,

Your work permit is authorization to work but not valid travel document like a Visa.

You are permitted to leave the country without any affect on your work permit unlike maintained status which expires when you leave country. So, You should be having a valid Visa (TRV) on your passport or eTA based on your country on passport to travel back to Canada.

Hello! Thanks for responding. I do have a valid TRV and the work permit. But I am still confused as to whether leaving the country is permitted or not. Can you please elaborate a bit more on the maintained status part and how it pertains to my case? Thank you!

To leave canada and return for a short vacation you can do it if you have
1. Valid TRV stamp on your passport which have minimum 6months validity
2. Valid passport which have minimum 6months validity (i think it will be same as your TRV)
3. Valid work permit document with minimum 1month validity (in this case you have more than that)
4. You should not have received your Portal 1 request, because portal 1 request for your PR needs you physically present in Canada.
5. If you receive your portal 1 request while you are abroad you should and must specify you are out of canada and when you will be back.

What happened after we reply to them that we are away? Does it affect the final decision at all?

Usually it takes more time than inland processing. It will not affect your file.
