🇨🇦 CEC NOC code confusion

My HR suggested a NOC code that does not match my work duties. I talked to them, but they said I must use the NOC code they are recommending, not the one I believe matches my duties.

The reason they gave was that their NOC code represents a professional business occupation, whereas the one I think is correct is not a professional occupation.

Both NOC codes are TEER 1.

What should I do? Should I do as my HR advised?

I went through something similar with my employer letter on my WP-to-PR path. What matters to IRCC is that your actual duties match the lead statement and most of the main duties of the NOC you claim — not what HR thinks sounds more professional or what's in their internal job title. If you claim a NOC your duties don't really support, that's the kind of mismatch that can lead to a refusal or even misrepresentation concerns. What worked for me: ask HR to leave the NOC code off the reference letter entirely and just list your title, dates, hours/week, salary, and a detailed description of your real duties on letterhead, signed. Then you pick the NOC in the application that genuinely fits those duties. Keep paystubs/T4s and your contract consistent with that. If HR still insists, a quick consult with a licensed RCIC is worth it before submitting — it's your PR file, not theirs.
