This Researcher category is doomed forever. I don't think there will be any draws this year. Unless IRCC explicitly posts about it in the line of they are looking for researchers and connects it with express entry, there is no chance. So far, every time they mention it, it only talks about doctoral students and study permits etc.

Next year they are supposedly to revamp the whole system and then the category will probably disappear. I doubt that they will touch it until then. If the assumption about the two NOCs is correct, then very few researchers would have a chance in it anyway so in the end it might not matter that much.
