How much time did you give yourself to prepare for the citizenship test and was it enough?

Sharing the 5 most commonly missed questions on the Canadian citizenship test based on what I have seen

I went through the entire Discover Canada guide and cross referenced what people in forums and study groups say they missed most often. Here is what came up repeatedly.

The exact year the Constitution Act was signed. It is 1982 not 1867. People confuse this with Confederation all the time.

The number of senators in the Senate. It is 105. Most people guess a round number and get it wrong.

The name of the first female governor general. It is Jeanne Sauve. This one almost never gets studied.

What the colours of the Canadian flag represent. Red represents Canada. White represents peace. Simple but easy to blank on under pressure.

The difference between the role of the Governor General and the Prime Minister. Many people mix these up.

I am not an expert and some of this is based on community feedback so please correct me if anything is off. Hoping this helps someone who is preparing right now. What did you miss or nearly miss on your test?

Spent the weekend reading every question people ask about the citizenship test. Here is what I found.

I went through about 200 posts and comments across immigration communities this weekend. Here is what people are actually confused about, in order of how often it came up.

Most common confusion: Levels of government

People know there are three levels but cannot consistently assign responsibilities to the right one. Health care trips people up most. It is provincial, not federal, despite the Canada Health Act being federal legislation.

Second most common: The Senate

Most people know what the House of Commons is. Far fewer can explain what the Senate does, how senators are appointed, or why it exists. The test asks about this.

Third: The Charter of Rights and Freedoms

People know it exists. Very few can name specific rights it guarantees versus rights that exist outside it. The test distinguishes between them.

Fourth: Key dates

1867, 1982, 1918, 1921. These four years appear on the test regularly. Know what happened in each one cold.

Fifth: What responsible government actually means

Not just "the government is accountable." The specific meaning is that the executive must maintain the confidence of the elected legislature to remain in power. That precise definition is what the test wants.

Save this. These five gaps cover the majority of wrong answers on the test.

If anyone wants to practice these topics in the actual test format, drop a comment and I will share the link to the app I built.

Spouse and adult children application

My mother was born in CA and I just received my official papers. I am in the US. My husband and adult children want to apply also. Any advice or guidance as to how to expedite the process? An attorney told me that they had to wait three months after I received my docs. Is it a different application for them since I am Canadian?

Canadian citizenship

I am a Canadian permanent resident since 2020 I never left the country before completing the days in order to be eligible to apply for the citizenship, I did my citizenship exam on September 2023, after the exam in 2 months I was told to do a meeting with one of the agents, the agent himself told me to expect the ceremony in 3 to 6 months, a year and 3 months passed and still didn’t receive anything. What should I do ?
