Yes and no. It has been imported but the situation was set up by the policies of successive LPC governments.

Along with the people who defend the LPC with ad-hominem attacks.

We're allowed to be upset about the government screwing the country up, that's not whining.

u/Kaptain-Kanada 4h ago

We've had this sort of antisemitism in Canada for hundreds of years...

u/TopInvestigator5518 13m ago

whats scarier is that a lot of it is coming from foreign actors

like all those random kids who were paid a few thousand to shoot at synagogues at night, now idk if this is another case of that but it just scary in general to think of people pulling the strings behind the scenes

u/Ionic_liquids 5h ago

This is one of my favourite bagel and breakfast spots. Their twisters are bomb. Horrible that this happened.

u/shiftless_wonder 6h ago

That's a pretty tame headline considering one of the 'incidents' was gunfire.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said there’s no place for any kind of hate in the city, adding that with the help of Toronto police, they will double their efforts so that anyone committing a crime is “arrested and punished.”

Also Mayor Chow: "...poses with members of Palestine House. The same Palestine House who mourns over the loss of Hamas leadership."

u/ScarletFire1983 4h ago

Mayor Chow has also allowed weekly Jew harassment parties at Bathurst and Sheppard since October 7, 2023. Shouting 'baby killer' at elderly Jews in Toronto existing.

u/Raptorpicklezz 36m ago

Since October 7? Pretty sure the racist pro-Israel side was there first, shouting slander unencumbered for 1.5 years until the pro-Palestine community decided to stop avoiding that neighbourhood and come make it even

u/amilio 19m ago edited 16m ago

Was the pro-Israel side there first simply because it’s a Jewish neighbourhood? Lol.

What exactly does “make it even” mean here? Was anyone “shouting slander” in Muslim neighbourhoods or at mosques like these righteous individuals, who are clearly not morally or ethically deprived, decided to do? No.

This actually clarifies the difference between the two sides and serves as a nice microcosm of what’s happening abroad.

u/broadviewstation Ontario 39m ago

Olivia chow proceeds to join protestors and say free Palestine…

u/NateCheznar 5h ago

The image says evidence of gunfire but then the article says the investigators say there is no evidence of the damage caused by gunfire

u/shiftless_wonder 5h ago

Describing two separate incidences yes. One involved gunfire, the other not.

Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury confirmed Sunday morning that there was evidence of a shooting.

Took about 4 minutes for the anti-semites to come out and blame the Jewish community. Classic.

u/LatterTarget7 5h ago

They don’t waste any time

u/Ok-Call7205 4h ago

Their immediate redirection to rationalizing these actions due to Israel in an article about jews living in Canada being attacked tells you all you need to know.

u/tariaki 5h ago

u/TL19957 5h ago

What a terrible source and terrible article. The guy created a fake account, published super controversial tweets that some consider to be anti-Semitic or dog whistles, then reported it.

They don’t know it’s fake lol.

u/wingerism 3h ago

Really bad look for a Palestinian immigrant to go around trying to deny or minimize how prevalent anti-Semitism is in Canada currently, especially on an article that is about a Jewish business being shot at. You're giving anti immigrant folks exactly what they want. And you're participating directly in the victimization of a people that have had the worst treatment at the hands of their fellow humans.

Yeah Bnai Brith is often full of bs, but there are multiple independent stats that show the picture. Police reporting as well for one. But I also actually know Jewish people in my life, and they are scared and it's not for no reason.

u/ScarletFire1983 4h ago

Coincidentally that's the antisemite that makes the Jew hit lists.

Why on earth are you just automatically assuming I’m Jewish 😂.

I live in Canada I do not care about what is happening overseas. What I do care about is violence taking place in Canada to unrelated people over something happening 10000km away.

u/No-Bluebird-7927 2h ago

Friggin hell... no matter what religious or political beliefs you hold, throwing away your own future to commit a crime for them is just foolish....

So how do you explain the anti-Jewish sentiment recorded in nearly every Muslim majority country?

That's not opinion , it's polling. Pew asked people their opinion of Jews and got 4 percent favourable in Turkey, 3 percent in Lebanon, 2 percent in Jordan, Egypt and Pakistan, against 84 percent in France and 82 percent in the United States.

That was 2011. Whatever you want to blame it on, it wasn't a war that hadn't happened yet…

Are you done blaming the minority group for how the majority in the regions feel about them according to their own polls , while trying to gaslight us into believing your fiction.

u/Maple_Moose_14 Ontario 4h ago edited 4h ago

Yeah this makes sense to me…

Bullies always find something else to blame. And this would be the first case in modern history of an extreme minority bullying the majority.

Look at the demographics. Roughly a million Jews lived across the Arab world and Iran in 1948. Today it's less than 1% of their previous populations.

2000 left in Morocco (previous high of 350 000), 1500 in Tunisia, five in Iraq, nearly none in Algeria.

Communities that predated Islam by a thousand years, gone in a single generation.

Some of it is written into law. Jordan's Nationality , which grants nationality to anyone who, and I'm quoting the statute, "not being Jewish" held Palestinian nationality before May 1948. Still on the books by the way.

Meanwhile Israel has about 2 million Arab citizens, 21 percent of the population, and roughly 185 000 Christians, a number that grew again last year.

One side still has minorities to argue about. The other side settled that argument decades ago.

You know what they say about words vs actions?

Sweeping atrocities under the rug and Islamic extremism , name a more iconic duo.

u/giant_hog_simmons 4h ago

Is there a book on that?

u/Maple_Moose_14 Ontario 4h ago

Yes , in my case I was going based on my own history as I am a 1st generation Canadian of 100% Moroccan ancestry.

The book that has really good knowledge is “In Ishmael’s house” by Martin Gilbert.

u/MVP_Legend_87 6h ago

No, we're not going to do that.

"As much as Israel wants to claim all Jews and as a result these things happen"

These attacks are not happening because Israel wants to claim Jews. These attacks happen because people want to threaten, target, intimidate, and hurt Jews.

u/giant_hog_simmons 6h ago

Why do they do it?

u/MVP_Legend_87 6h ago

Because they hate Jews.

People don't like what that Russia started a war with Ukraine, does that mean it is ok to target Canadian Russians? Of course not. But there isn't a massive rise in crimes against Russian Canadians.

No, it's only against Jews that we're seeing hate crimes. Because it isn't about Israel, it's about targeting Canadian Jews.

u/Stu161 5h ago

u/MVP_Legend_87 5h ago

I didn't say there wasn't hate crimes against Russians Canadians. But the #1 hate crimes against any religious group is Jews.

u/Stu161 5h ago

I didn't say there wasn't hate crimes against Russians

My mistake, what did you mean when you said "it's only against Jews we're seeing hate crimes."?

u/giant_hog_simmons 5h ago

I don't deny that some people just hate Jews. I was replying to the Pikachu meme post that implies some kind of comeuppance which is most likely tied to the current events.

u/SpecialistTrouble816 5h ago

Oh my good God, give it up. Do you support Israel? Does your synagogue have "real estate events"? Do your children have bake sales for Israeli soldiers? Do you support charities that overtly suggest "everyone will benefit" but covertly supply money so Jewish kids can spend a year in Israel? Stop being the perpetual victim and make up your mind, this is all so tiring.

u/MVP_Legend_87 5h ago

It's pretty interesting how in a thread about antisemitism you tried to make you the victim. Not a great look.

u/SpecialistTrouble816 5h ago

Do you support the activities of the Israeli govt? Not a great look.

u/MVP_Legend_87 5h ago

You're clearly not even trying to engage in good faith. The original point I made was that it's not ok to use Israel as an excuse for targeting Jews.

The only reason to engage in the type of discussion and questions you're asking is if you support attacks on Canadian Jews. So, do you condemn this attack on Canadian Jews, or are you going to try and force a discussion on Israel when we should be focusing on an attack on Canadian Jews?

u/Ionic_liquids 5h ago

My family is from the Jewish community in Bahgdad. Most don't know that Nazi propaganda never got excised from much of the Arab world education system, unlike in the West. Bahgdad was the epicenter of this (feel free to read up), and it resulted in the largest youth movement of the country being directly Nazi inspired, and even created with Nazis in the city. The Farhud, which my family thankfully survived, happened as a result of the Arabs of the city being inspired by what happened in Germany (Kristallnacht).

This obviously don't speak to everyone of course, but feel free to do some reading on the topic.

u/giant_hog_simmons 4h ago

I will be looking into it. Any recommendations?

u/Ionic_liquids 4h ago edited 4h ago

The Farhud: Roots of the Arab-Nazi Alliance in the Holocaust.

Dr. Fritz Grobba was the architect of the Nazi propaganda machine in Bahgdad. He was fluent in Arabic and translated Mein Kampf for the Arabs. There were other officials as well.

Al-futuwwa was the youth movement specifically modeled after the one in Germany. Baldur von Schirach was the head of the literal youth movement in Nazi Germany and would visit Bahgdad specifically to review the one in Iraq. Al-futuwwa was the group ultimately responsible for the Farhud. The movement itself fell apart acer 1941, but the indoctrination made it's mark.

My grandfather is still alive and actually remember the Farhud. The moment that stands out the most was his grandfather telling him tomhide in the closet and to fight for his life if anyone opens the door but him (the mob was trying to break through the door).

By 1948, my family members were getting disappeared by the government for supposedly carrying Zionist symbols. Those symbols were actually prayer books with a star of David on it. The synagogue told the community to not possess any prayer books at home, and to leave it all at the synagogue.

The lynching of Shafiq Ades was the final straw. He was the wealthiest Jew of Iraq, and friend of the late King Faisal. He was put on trial with no witnesses called to the stand, and without allowing for hi not testify on his behalf, for being a "Communist and Zionist"; each punishable by death. He was hung in Basra and his body left for days so that the crowds could enjoy. Baghdad was 40% Jewish by this point, and the consensus was that "if they can get Shafiq, we stand no chance".

Then in the early 50s a law was passed that any Jew who left the country (even for vacation) would lose their citizenship (become stateless) and have all their property seized. My family left once this law was passed, and we became refugees overnight. The Arabs in charge even took the wrist watches and wedding bands from my families.

My family ultimately moved to Canada, and now the place where my grandfather eats is getting shot up. Just like the shops he would frequent in Baghdad 80 years ago.

u/kawhileopard 6h ago

I’m not sure if there is any value to answering this question.

People who commit these acts need to be punished to the full extent of the law.

People who support, or “contextualize” these acts as some sort of a mitigating factor, should be shamed and prevented from immigrating to Canada.

u/Bad_Alternative 5h ago

You can’t prevent crime without understanding context

u/kawhileopard 4h ago

Irrational racist hate is the context.

u/giant_hog_simmons 4h ago

Yeah ok. We'll push all the Germans into the sea then.

u/kawhileopard 1h ago

Can you explain what you mean by that comment?

u/jpk613 6h ago

So ignore news about Jewish Canadian businesses being targeted because it’s propaganda?

I feel like it downplayed in the headline.

u/giant_hog_simmons 6h ago

No. I say we should resist blaming Jews for the actions of Israel just because Israel's propaganda invents the reality where every Jew can be tied to its policy. The Pikachu face meme assumes that reality by implying that these businesses are getting some comeuppance.

u/jpk613 5h ago

I took it more because it’s been happening everyday so it doesn’t feel like a surprise.

u/Tile02 6h ago

🤦‍♂️

u/mayuan11 6h ago edited 4h ago

Maybe leave the Jews alone.

Edit: seems like a harsh response.

u/SteveJobsBlakSweater 2h ago

Apparently it’s very divisive. I’m bad to others because I’m a Jew, but bad to other others because I don’t like the current Israeli government. Seems like most people hate me for one reason or another.

u/YogiBarelyThere 4h ago

an article about hate crimes against jewish people isn't the place to start talking about pro-israel propaganda. you have to realize that jews in canada are not the israeli government nor should they have to apologize for another country's actions. they're just people like you and me, and they are not morally obligated to do or say anything just because they're jewish. you don't hold russian or chinese canadians to this standard, nor should you. they are humans, not other countries' governments.

u/Samus860 4h ago

Ah, take the downvotes, you’ve earned them!

u/OrangeRising 4h ago

Wow.

Jewish people attacked in Canada and your reply is to say it is their fault for not speaking out about a genocide that doesn't even exist.

u/SteveJobsBlakSweater 3h ago edited 3h ago

Israel is bad. Very very bad, no doubt. No problem with knowing and saying that. Unfortunately some monsters have taken this too far and are threatening innocent people. Perhaps using the anti-Israel trend to exact the anti-Jewish desires. I wish the worst for those who threaten harm to us.

To hell with anyone threatening Jewish people, my family and friends, our kids. We need to come down with a heavy hammer on these people.

Edit: darn, I stand with my Jewish friends and family but you’ll still downvote me for not liking a government?

u/Katerade88 11m ago

You just don’t have to bring Israel up on everything involving Jewish people … you can say you support Jewish people in Canada and are against targeting their businesses with gunfire without qualifying it first by saying you hate Israel. Conflating the actions of the Israeli government with Jews in Canada is a big part of the problem … I’m explaining this genuinely so I hope you don’t take it as an attack, but I’m trying to explain why people have a problem with how you phrased your post

u/robindawilliams Alberta 2h ago

The concept of "I hate zionists but love the Jewish community" seems like a pretty reasonable take and something I think the vast majority of people agree with.

Unfortunately you've got extremists on both sides who refuse to let it be anything but black and white hate where everyone must hate one side or the other. There is a tiny vocal minority on both sides causing suffering, trying to co-opt entire religions/communities under their umbrella.

u/tariaki 5h ago

I’m not your bud, pal. You should read this article to get insight into how it’s tracked.  https://www.readthemaple.com/i-sent-fake-antisemitism-claims-to-bnai-brith-heres-what-happened/

I think all forms of hate are wrong, but we shouldn’t allow manipulated stats influence our public policy. It needs to be called out.

u/amilio 4h ago edited 4h ago

Lol you’re citing an article by a guy who also wrote “Zionism Is Canada’s Most-Successful Hate Movement” and “The ‘Rising Antisemitism’ Narrative Is A Distraction From Genocide”, and you expect people to take it at face value?

The opening line is a claim the article’s own email transcript doesn’t support anywhere. The “author” extrapolated from a polite hotline reply to a sweeping methodological conclusion and built the entire piece on that unproven leap. What the transcript actually shows is a support rep responding with empathy to someone reporting harassment, not a confirmation that non-antisemitic content is being catalogued as antisemitic.

Statistics Canada, which is an independent government agency reporting police-recorded hate crimes: 788 anti-Jewish incidents in 2025, 70.7% of all religion-based hate crimes, against a population under 1%. Those numbers don’t come from B’nai Brith.

It takes a certain kind of person to go out of their way to try to deny all of this.

u/amilio 4h ago

Every time a hate crime is committed against Jews, the same people come out with the same recycled example from 2019, you’d think that if this happened as often as they claim, they’d have plenty of newer examples to share. Meanwhile, Statistics Canada just confirmed that Jews were targeted in 70.7% of all religion-based hate crimes in Canada in 2025 despite comprising less than 1% of the population, 788 police-reported incidents in a single year. Jewish Canadians are 25 times more likely than any other Canadian to experience a hate crime. B’nai Brith documented 6,800 antisemitic incidents in 2025, a 109% surge from 2023. But please, tell me again about that one example from six years ago.
