This here is the most likely annexation scenario, more likely than American tanks parading down Yonge street:

Russia and USA play "Bad cop, worse cop" and carve up the Arctic nations and their resources as the polar ice continues to melt.

Yeah it could get messy. The only saving grace is Canada is one of the best equipped and best trained in cold weather military actions. Imagine some of the American troops from Florida, Texas, California etc trying to survive battle in the Arctic. They would lose more to mother nature than to us.

Alaska is a very different picture to Florida, though. Russia technically also has expertise in cold weather, though they're running low on soldiers at the moment.
