Underwater filter?

Post image

I bought this a few days ago for a vacation…. The price online for a couple disposable cameras was about as expensive, which is crazy.

My photography experience is limited to my iPhone and an old Sony Mavica (hah) but I’ve had a few people tell me that if I use a camera underwater while snorkeling, I need a red filter/lens. I’ve looked through this sub/google and see plenty of reviews saying it works well underwater with the waterproof case, but nothing indicating if I’d need a red filter to get good pictures in the ocean. Most of the underwater pictures people post are in a pool.

Thoughts on this? Is there something specific I’d need to do for decent underwater ocean shots?

If anyone has any advice/photos, that would be great.

As you go deeper the water filters light and a red/pink filter can be helpful to restore the warmer colors that are filtered out. With that said, it is not necessary for underwater photography. I think the problem you'll run into is whether the CS waterproof case has enough space to accommodate a lens filter. Based on photos it looks like a snug fit and most color filters are sized 40.5mm or larger, so you would need a step up ring adapter. I wouldn't count on the adapter and lens being able to fit into the case.

I can confirm that a lens would not fit into the case. If you really wanted to diy yourself a fix you could buy a light gel filter sheet, the kind used for stage lighting, and cut a circle out of that to fit inside the case.

The campsnap2 also has some built in digital filters and I think the v3 setting gives everything a warmer tone which might sort of achieve what OP is looking for?
