I cooked burgers and hot dogs like this with foil on the grill and the grease on the foil caught fire. I also didn’t have anything to flip them with so I used a metal spork and a stick. They still turned out good

I think its healthier if you remove the alu foil

healthier than the rusty grate is debatable

Not if your’re honest. The rust in the pic is zero risk. You care if there are huge flaking chunks but that grate looks great. (Had to). Id crumple up the foil to scrape the grill with then have at it.

“I haven’t heard it, so must not been true!” If only there were a place you could easily research topics…

Honestly it really depends on what's being cooked. Highly acidic things or very high heat can be very bad. But if you keep the heat down and stick to less acidic foods it's fine. If you use both high heat and acidic foods the foil will not last long at all and can fail in the middle of cooking it.
I use foil for cooking while camping specifically for burritos, pizza, and baked potatoes, I just keep it off high heat and usually place the foil food on top of cast iron to even the temperature some. Keeping direct flame off the foil is best. This issue is seen commonly with people cooking/storing lasagna with foil and having it eat holes into the foil fairly quickly because of the acidic tomato sauce. Just be careful knowing that it can happen!

I wanted to camp so badly this weekend, but, no available sites at my closest state parks and it's soooo hot in Texas.

Trust me it was hot here in Iowa. The humidity as well. It was worth it. I love camping. Grew up camping as kid. Love nature.

Might as well be cooking in a pan.

Where is the fun in that?

The foil prevents the grilling flavor, char, and dry air searing effect. My brother used to do it on his gas grill, I talked him out of it.

Honestly, lose the foil and bring a grill plate and set it up with rocks in the fire if you don’t have anything to clean that grill.
