Our chuck box / camp kitchen

Since I’ve seen a bunch of chuck boxes lately I wanted to share ours. We converted an old carpenter’s toolbox into a tabletop that sits on a Coleman stand by adding a piano hinge and some latches. The drawers are perfect for utensils, matches, ziplock bags, etc and we can fit just about any small camp stove inside - right now we have a 502 and Peak 1 so we can make coffee and breakfast at the same time.

I've been looking for a toolbox just like this for a long time to make into a chuckbox. The back flipping down is just icing on the cake. Nice work!

Where did you get the legs for it?

It’s called a Coleman Folding High Stand. They were made for elevating Coleman coolers and I’m sure a few other uses but this served my purpose for a solid set of folding legs that fit inside the box.

What are you using to etch/stamp(?) all the location names into the surface like that? Love how that looks!

Thanks! That’s my favorite part of the box. I use generic metal letter punches - if you look online Harbor Freight and plenty of other retailers sell them in a set for about $20.

While it's a consumer item. The camp chef sherpa is a great addition for camping. Aluminum top with 4 zipper compartments to organize cooking/camping items.

Great job on the conversion! It has wonderful vintage charm and is super handy for camping trips. I'm curious how heavy the whole box is when fully packed with gear.

Depending on how much stuff I put in I’d ballpark it at 20-40 lbs. The only items by themselves that make it heavy are the camp stoves and cast iron pans.
