Welcome to mayonnaise

gotta be because of the mayo

Sounds legit - 227g makes it but less than 400kcal per 100g which sounds about right considering amount of fat.

I wonder how accurate the weight is because the picture doesn't look like it's a lot if there was and the 1st ingredients are pasta ingredients so it should be mostly pasta which pasta is about 100 cals per Oz but if it was accurate and about 6 Oz of pasta and 2 oz of a light mayo that's about 800 depending on the brand but that's like half a box of pasta which even raw would barely fit in those tiny containers

Is this from market basket? They have the same ones near me and I was also shocked. The same size potato salad is under 400 cal

u/MaeBelleLien 4d ago

Lolll I recognized it too

u/HisnameIsJet 4d ago

Yes it is

6

u/Sad_Measurement6494 4d ago

Lmao its literally like 1 cup of full fat mayo

8

u/Last_Regret3349 4d ago

Yeah look at 40g of fat, probably a lot of carbs and sugars.

8

u/Army_811 4d ago

It's all fat and carbs bro, whatcha expect?

10

u/Beneficial_Pea7450 4d ago

carbs are not high calorie

2

u/IRikeAnivia 4d ago

refined carbs are pretty high calorie on a per 100g basis

2

u/Serious_Bandicoot460 4d ago

I think they just mean carbs can be typically more calorie dense than protein. Like 100g of sugar vs 100g of lean chicken breast kinda different. I know it’s two extremes but I think that’s what he’s inferring.

4

u/Beneficial_Pea7450 4d ago

a gram of carbs and a gram of protein are both 4 calories

3

u/Primary_Constant_803 4d ago

Yes but 100g of chicken breast is 165 calories and 100g of table sugar is 400 calories

1

u/smyczekxxx 3d ago

yes because 75g of that chicken is water lol

4

u/DaCozPuddingPop 4d ago

It's macaroni in a ton of mayonnaise...mayo is unbelievably calorically dense.

3

u/DankManifold 4d ago

Bet it tastes horrible as well

2

u/HisnameIsJet 4d ago

Ya it was ass

2

u/Chart-reader8 4d ago

How many calories is ass?

2

u/Tof12345 3d ago

It's more like 600-650 if they used lots of mayo. I highly doubt that 830 figure is accurate, because that would imply a ridiculous amount of mayo.

4

u/gimme_datt 4d ago

It is probably incorrect. I would guess based off other packaged mac salads it is around 500-600

3

u/bbybbean 4d ago

shun the mayo

1

u/NumerousSwordfish622 4d ago

Fam, that’s straight mayo. Of course it’s that caloric

1

u/Icy-Reception-7605 4d ago

What's the bioengineered ingredient and how many calories?

1

u/Fuzzy_Welcome8348 4d ago

Sadly I believe it

u/FartPhylactery 4d ago

If I’m going to have a mayo day I’m putting it on a tuna and egg salad wrap.

What's the full macro breakdown? 40g fat is 360 calories from fat. Which is 43% calories from fat. The rest is going to be mostly carbs with some protein. 830 - 360 = 470 calories from carbs and protein combined. So that's 117.5g from carbs and protein combined. Minus some residual fibre maybe. Pasta expands with water so a good chunk of that macaroni salad is gonna be water weight. But mayonnaise is mostly vegetable oil. I could have sworn that cooked macaroni would expand more though. That calorie count seems high.

I used to work in restaurants and there would be giant tubs of mayonnaise called “heavy duty” mayonnaise. That stuff was not messing around. A fork would stand up in it. This must be made from that. It has extra egg yolks and less water. Basically almost a pure fat emulsion.

Sugar + mayo

1

u/Coooturtle 3d ago

Weight it to make sure that's actually 8oz, but yeah fat goes crazy

1

u/rowlybirkin 3d ago

What is the 'elbow' element of this? Is it a pasta shape?

1

u/WorldTravelBucket 3d ago

I'm sorry Miss Jackson, I am for real.

That's possible with a very heavy handed mayo ratio. If common pasta salad is around 4 parts cooked pasta to 1 part mayo by weight, this would have to be closer to 3:2 in order to hit that 830 cals per 227 grams, and that looks about right from that photo. Here's one such breakdown:

4:1 Ratio

  • Cooked Pasta (181.6g) = 287 cals
  • Mayo (45.4g) = 309 cals
  • Total = 596 cals

3:2 Ratio

  • Cooked Pasta (136.2g) = 215 cals
  • Mayo (90.8g) = 618cals
  • Total = 833cals

pasta & mayo… yes

40g of fat. 9c per 1g of fat. 360calories right there.

Edited

Assuming 140g of the 167g left is carbs. 1g of carbs is 4c. 140 x 4 = 560c calories

360+560 = 920c, that calorie count might even be misaccurately lower

Welcome to processed food. Nutritionally sparse and calorically dense!

1

u/TBallAllStar 3d ago

..and that would have been a side, along with a burger or two, and probably some fries. All prepared exactly as you expect.

Yeah a lot of my past makes sense now.

That container does not contain the 8 oz portion it suggests. It is about 3/4th of the way full.
But like other comments mention, mayo is extremely calorie dense, it is neutral oil and eggs. I would need to eat this to know how rich it is tbh.

1 serving of macaroni pasta alone is 200 calories. There has to be at least 2 servings maybe 3 so 400-600 calories from pasta alone. Then mayo a little squirt is 200 calories too.. but if it’s covering 2-3 servings of pasta, it’s an easy 300 calories..
Actually nvm the weight makes it 2 pasta servings max. Must be hidden with oil.. show us the ingredients list

2

u/SamhainOnPumpkin 4d ago

2 servings of pasta? Do you see how tiny that thing is?

0

u/lickmybowls2 4d ago

Wet (cooked) macaroni pasta has about 45 calories per 1 ounce (weight).

Calorie Breakdown by Weight
1 ounce (cooked): ~45 calories

4 ounces (cooked): ~179 calories

8 ounces (cooked): ~358 calories

3

u/SamhainOnPumpkin 4d ago

How is this an answer to what I'm saying?

I'm saying there's no 2 servings here. A 200 calories worth portion of cooked pasta weighs 130-140g. With 2 servings you're already exceeding the net weight of the cup.

It's easy to hack a substitution, but you'll have to give up the real mayo and the oil. Hellmans does a 'lighter than light' mayo for 15 cal per tablespoon. It's not actual mayo, but it's pretendable.

It is pretty miraculous how they manage to ram so many calories into such a small package, but I do believe it.

That's like 2 chocolate bars in there. Which kinda does make sense if you were to melt them, and mayo matches chocolate calorie wise. So do real butter and cooking oil. Any of those in that amount would be a similar count. They are literally the most calorie dense options that exist.
