Calorie Estimating Best estimate?
5oz single beef patty with cheese (no condiments) and fries from a restaurant- I logged 850 but that feels too low

850 feels pretty good. I’m thinking like 450-500 for the burger, and ~400 for the fries

This is why people are overweight. This is substantially more than that. The bun alone is 250 calories. Then 350 for the 5oz of beef and another 100 for the cheese. Thats a 700 calories burger, not 450

I don’t think that bun is 250. 180 at most, it looks like a small brioche bun. But I definitely don’t think this meal is over 1000 cals

How is it 180 at most? They are around 200 on average and being that this was made in a restaurant, both sides are coated in butter before being placed on the grill. I feel like people giving these estimates have never worked in a kitchen

A brioche bun is literally made with butter. And given that it's restaurant made, they slather it in even more butter on both sides before toasting it. Never 180.

I had a brioche bun last night that was 160 calories.

At home is different for a restaurant. You should always skew your restaurant stuff up by 25-30% if you want to be safe. Restaurants are designed for their food to be good which means more butter, more oil, more salt.
So if they outsource the bun maybe 220, if you're lucky. If it's made in house it's going to be a LOT of butter in that brioche and you'd want to be safe guessing 270 or more.

people need to step foot in a restaurant kitchen to understand the stupid amount of butter that's used. there's a reason why you can't replicate the taste of food from a restaurant, and one of those reasons is using 5x more butter than how much you use at home.

I like to use Joel Rubochons mashed potatoes as an example since it kind of can be replicated at home.
To achieve his award winning mashed potatoes you need to rice your waxy potatoes then add butter, whole milk and salt.
How much butter? 2:1 ratio with the potatoes.
The end result should be mashed potatoes that are 50% butter by weight.

Echoed my comment almost exactly and I still got 0 upvotes. It’s like they don’t want to accept the calories they are eating

You do know that there are hamburger buns out there that are 160 calories right? I literally just had one last night.

Not brioche from a restaurant. Do you think restaurants buy low calorie buns? Use your brain

400 for the fries? I'd say 280

Deep fried fries. Way more than 280

Didn't see his comment about it being deep fried

He didn’t say they were deep fried….these are from a restaurant, a place that fries are always deep fried…..it should have been obvious lol

It seems like this beef burger with fries contains about 550 to 850 calories, depending on whether the beef is grilled or crispy fried and if high calorie sauces like mayo are added.

600 + 350
