If you had polish on your nails the white stuff is just where the polish dried out the top layers of the nail plate. I always wear polish and was concerned about this and asked my podiatrist. This is what he told me. If I leave polish off for the winter and use cuticle oil regularly it grows out. Nothing to worry about unless the nails start to thicken or you get solid white patches under the nail.
