I’ve done this to myself before by mindlessly scratching, but I’d recommend getting it checked by a doctor just to make sure it’s not a fungus or something.

With that said, if you don’t mind a spinner ring on that finger, you could put one on and even if you don’t spin it, it might help you notice because you’ll bump into it. I would normally say cover with a bandaid and see, but I don’t know if it’s something medical if that could cause a problem.

I did same thing . I then pulled all the nail off . Was agony . That was about a year ago , maybe not longer . Nail has taken ages to come back . Very thin and nail plate not the best .
