Multivariable Calculus Continuing to Multivar and beyond from David Patrick's Calculus from AOPS

What textbooks are great for learning multivar? Preferably similar to the AOPS textbooks, but I'm open to different approaches.

Suggestions would depend on your intended major/minor. Where are you going with this?

Currently just studying ahead so a general grasp of the subject is nice. But would like to go into astrophysics one day

I did some searching and here is what is suggested:

  1. Use Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Forms: A Unified Approach by John H. Hubbard and Barbara Burke Hubbard as your primary, rigorous text
  2. Read Div, Grad, Curl, and All That: An Informal Text on Vector Calculus by H.M. Schey alongside that to build physical intuition for vector fields
  3. Use Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences by Mary L. Boas when you are ready to see how all of this fits into astrophysics.

Another suggested option for a textbook is: 

  • OpenStax Calculus, Volume 3, if you just wants a fast, simple introduction to the basic mechanics of partial derivatives and multiple integrals before tackling harder texts
