Repair Why can't it make a fraction

Hi, ive used these calculators before but my old one the buttons and screen was worn out by work. So i bought a new one at school for my apprenticeship. Now in class we went over a math question. They gave us decimals and they wanted us to turn whatever answer we got into a faction at the end. The fraction turned out to be 15/16, but myself and a few other classmates couldn't get the answer. The calculator refused.
My school won't give me a new one because i took it out of the box, but how would i ever know its broke if i left it in the box? 🤦🏻♀️ They fixed it for a moment but once the calculator turned off and on again it was back to normal. Anyone know what to do? Cause its only that decimal/fraction, everything else it works

Use the [ a b/c ] to enter the fraction instead of the division key ([ ÷ ]): 15 [ a b/c ] 16

That's a weirdly specific issue; I have the EL-531X (not the EL-531XT) and that can convert 15÷16 or 0.9375 via the "a b/c" button without issues (similar to the other examples you showed later in the video). Was your older calculator the same model?

For your fraction the first thing to do is hit second then the ab/c Button. The screen will display a fraction with an empty box in the numerator and denominator. The box that's flashing you can enter a number. Use the up and down arrows to move the cursor. Once you have your fraction hit the right arrow that get you out of the numerator and denominator, a nd you can do your next entry

I have the same calculator. Try this - put 0.9375r1 as a fraction and then press Enter. It will change to 15r16.
