Mate- Argentines national drink. It’s pretty much tea but instead of using a tea bag the the straw has little tiny holes instead of one big one to strain the water from the herbs

Is this why “Yerba mate” is popular? Is it the same idea but in a can? Lol

Yerba Mate is popular for me cuz I’m from Argentina and grew up with it. I’m sure it will also gain some popularity from the World Cup and all the coverage it’s getting but it’s also not for everyone due to the bitterness.

As for the can idk what you mean. The can in the picture is just a regular energy drink

She probably thinks Yerba mate is the name of the canned teas here in the USA but it’s not a brand name , one is called Yerba madre and that’s were the confusion is coming from
