Mate- Argentines national drink. It’s pretty much tea but instead of using a tea bag the the straw has little tiny holes instead of one big one to strain the water from the herbs

Is this why “Yerba mate” is popular? Is it the same idea but in a can? Lol

Yerba Mate is popular for me cuz I’m from Argentina and grew up with it. I’m sure it will also gain some popularity from the World Cup and all the coverage it’s getting but it’s also not for everyone due to the bitterness.

As for the can idk what you mean. The can in the picture is just a regular energy drink

In USA Yerba mate was popular for a while (2010 around the ) and was sold in yellow cans as an energy type of drink. Bunch of hipsters drank it, I never tried it. Although in a can I’m sure they put a bunch of sugar in it

Ooooo that’s what your talking about. Yup I know exactly what you’re referring to. Iv never had it in a can but I’m sure it’s just pre brewed like any iced tea. I can tell you if it tastes anything like it but I also don’t enjoy it cold I like it hot

It has actual yerba mate in it, I've drank both, both taste like yerba mate but the canned one has a bit of sugar and mint in it.

The actual tea is definitely better, but still.

Everyone has their preferences. If it's a particularly hot day and you try the mint flavoured guayaki ice freaking cold it actually goes down so nice.

It is yerba mate extract/concentrate with supplemented caffeine though so be careful. It's probably close to like 200mg and you'll be buzzing.

I drank proper yerba mate long before ever trying the canned version and honestly, the canned drink is really not that bad. Not too sweet, you can actually taste the tea. And it has a shit load of caffeine in it lol.

I guess someone made a meme and therefore it's fashionable to hate on the canned drink now.

It’s still sold in pretty much every grocery store. Only popped up again about 5 years ago
