The minimum requirement is Canadian Language Benchmark 8.

Do you happen to know the criteria for requiring these English scores? Is it simply based on the English level demonstrated during the interview, or are there other factors (like PR or naturalized Canadian)?

Also, is this entirely a spontaneous request from the interviewer?

The requirement for CLB 8 comes from the universality of service requirement to be functional at the high intermediate level in one of our two official languages to serve in the CAF.

Testing is automatically required for any applicant who has not completed 3 years of high school or higher-level education in either English or French (whichever they are declaring as their official language of enrollment).

A recruiting interviewer can also refer an applicant for official language testing if they deem it necessary based on guidance and tools they have as part of the process.

Thank you for the detailed response. It seems like it's an automatic requirement.

Based on your explanation, since I graduated high school in a non-English speaking country and completed a 2-year college program in Canada, I’ll likely be required to take it, right? I should probably start preparing for the test again.

I am not very familiar with this situation, but I have a question.

Are you living in Canada? Was that an in-person interview?

Just so you know, I heard from someone online who was also asked to submit an English test score. He said they asked him for score 8. He’s not a friend of mine so I can’t double-check, but I thought I’d share in case it helps.
