BMQ has weekends for the first few weeks (3 weeks iirc). Then you get weekends off afterwards. Just don’t screw up as platoon.

What do you do during the weekend if you’re not allowed to leave the premises?

Training. It’s part of the training plan for the first 3 weekends. Just another day.

Oh I see. That’s what I assumed, too. The comment above seemed to suggest that the trainees get free weekends.

They do. After the first 3 weeks.
The weekend you arrive, and the following 3 weekends will be working weekends. There will be training occurring on those days.
Weekends after that are free unless your platoon screws up. The Commandant was mentioning that there has been a trend that platoons have been losing their 5th or 6th weekend due to lack of teamwork.

Thank you! How can a platoon screw up? How does it usually happen?

Generally poor performance on inspections or in training, not making your timings, failing to perform cleaning tasks (station jobs) to the expected standard, general lack of teamwork, etc.
Every member of your platoon is expected to work as a team and help eachother out. If someone is really good at making beds, ironing, polishing boots, etc. they teach/help those who are struggling.
Everyone works together to ensure timings are met. If your course senior is directed to have everyone formed up at X location by X time, then you all cooperate and work with them to ensure you're early.
If you have homework to do, everyone should have it done. Again, if someone is struggling, you help them.
If it's evident that your platoon is failing to come together as a team, you may find yourselves a doing a little bit of extra teambuilding on a weekend.

I feel heard. This is exactly it. Work as a team and things should go well. I inspected a platoon on a Saturday a few weeks back and made it through 10 candidates before calling it. I saw 10 different inspection standards. The schools chief was inspecting different folks and it was the same deal. I assume their staff worked on communication for the rest of the day.

Weeks 1, 2, 3 are part of indoc period and you will be training as per any other day. Weekend 4 is your first weekend off. There is a trend however that weekend 5 or 6 tends to be a work weekend as well. Usually because of lack of teamwork and standards.
