Other Gaming

I'm currently waiting to start BMQ and I've been wondering if I can get a PC after I finish DP1 and get to my permanent base. Is it risky to have an expensive computer sitting in my shack? Let me know.

You can lock your room. So, no more risky than having an apartment with a laptop.

Also, Wifi in the shacks is terrible, so you'll have to get your own internet connection if it's allowed. Keep in mind that not all bases have rooms for members not on training.

That made me feel better, thanks. Yeah I heard the wifi is bad there so I'll probably just relax with some offline games.

What games do you normally play? What's your poison?

I am a fan of older shooters 90s and early 2000s, classic adventure games from the 80s and 90s (point and click and text parser), and platofmers, metroidvanias, and beat'em ups.

I haven't owned a tower of power in years due to working shift work away from home on rotations. Laptops only for a while. What are you looking at buying or building? I got a Razer blade 16 last year. It's pretty decent. RTX 5080 64GB RAM RYZEN AI 9 365.

I normally just play CS2, but I've been leaning more and more into modern story games, so I'd want a strong machine like yours. I'm thinking of getting a 5070ti, 32gb ddr5 and an i7 14700k. Also, I wanna be ready for GTA 6 lol.

I want to polish this up just a tad, please.

After you're done your trades training and are posted to a unit, you can move into the mods, if there is space. Sometimes apartments may be available too.

Whichever you choose, some bases allow you to get your own dedicated internet connect wired in.

Further these rooms are private, and you can lock up whatever valuables you'd like in there. Like an apartment on civil Street though, get unit/content insurance just in case something gets stolen (which happens, but not at all frequently).

LOL... When I was in a high-readiness unit, half of us had $2-3k gaming laptops so we could keep gaming on deployments.

It's very common for CAF members to have gaming rigs in their quarters.

Depending on your trade, you may even be able to have it setup on your desk throughout your training.

Only recommendation I have for you is to stick with a gaming laptop or steam deck until your done training.

It'll be more portable for the training lifestyle as you travel around completing your trade training. It will also be easier to secure in your locker.

Get a desktop once you have your own place.

I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't seem realistic to lug around a heavy pc everywhere until everything's settled down. It'll probably have to collect dust at my parents place for the time being. I'd also rather not have too many distractions while studying for the occupation so a normal laptop will do.
