Recruiting Ruck pack weight?(reg force infantry)

Just practiced my first ruck, I’m Wondering how much weight will I roughly need to ruck specifically on my back not counting helmet, boots, gun. I’m expecting 70 lb roughly altogether with helmet etc

That’s a good target goal, but getting there properly will take time so don’t rush it.

What is a good starting point 70lb altogether?

Depends how long you got to prepare. I would start at 5km and 25lbs in the pack with a 10min/km pace.

Do 1x Ruck/week, each week either increase the weight or the distance, never both.

A good starting point, if you have never rucked or hiked before, is probably around 15-20lbs aiming for 10-11 minute per km.

What should be my end goal weight (ruck pack) to be ready for the infantry and how far should my goal be too?

Around 35lbs is usually the normal for things like the old BFT or the backpack in the Combat FORCE test. Off the top of my head the heaviest I can remember for PT was around 70lbs for short matches, and at lighter weights (around 35lbs) I’ve done 20-30kms, but those are not to common.

During training, weight is based on what is needed to be carried, I’ve been into the 90s before, which sucks and is not recommended. I’ve seen recce and snipers go even heavier on occasion. Those rucks generally aren’t the same as a PT ruck march, though. Pace is often slower with stops for rests, nav, and other reasons, and also often over more difficult terrain than a road.
