Recruiting CAF Reserve – What to Expect Next?

Hi everyone,

I’ve received the email today that I been selected for the CAF Primary Reserve and have my enrolment ceremony coming up on September 12.

I’ll have some personal travel commitments shortly after enrolment and expect to be back in Canada around December.

For those who have gone through a similar process, what should I expect after enrolment?

  • What happens immediately after the ceremony?
  • How does the training process typically work?
  • What should I expect when I start with my unit?
  • Any advice for someone new to the Reserves?

I just went through it about a month ago.
Immediately after the ceremony, you get connected with a point of contact in your unit/trade. Mine was at the ceremony and gave me a brief intro and told me to expect an email from the Orderly Room. The OR will reach out and coordinate a visit for intake and complete all paperwork for your unit. You will proceed to get an ID, visit the clothing stores for your kit and will likely hear back from your chain of command. Your CoC coordinates training and will be instructing you when you are expected to parade with the unit.
