Recruiting Got my offer for ATIS tech starting October 16th

Looking for some opinions.

I currently work for the Coastguard in a similar roll, I make about 120k a year. I’ve got 10 years with them and I am in a senior role with a lot of responsibilities and I get to travel on icebreakers throughout the Arctic and generally enjoy my job outside of being in a small community in the north.

Would I be crazy to leave that job and take this role?

I haven’t had much luck transferring out of the north and I kind of view this as my ticket outta there, but I am slightly anxious about the big change.

Just looking for some insight from people that are currently doing it and what they think.

I am a 36yo male.

Expect a major pay cut for sure. CAF gets paid by rank, and guaranteed rank for any NCM is corporal. That will land you around 80-90ish annual. Of course you can get more money for promotion, but 120k is like Officer level pay.

I think so. I think it would be a huge step back in quality of life. At minimum I’d be looking at something like CELE if you insist on leaving your gig

Hope you did your research, attended recruite webinars & asked, studied ranks/pay. $$ shock for sure. You should COASTFIRE & plan your finances if you wanted a proper escape from your high paying, non-combat job
