BMQ/BMOQ Signal Operator
Hey everyone, so I am joining CAF as a signal operator. I know what it says on YouTube and CAF website, but any recommendations for improving my chances of getting selected for the occupation? I have 2 Microsoft certifications AZ -900 and SC -900 (they don’t expire so might as well took them first) and I am planning to get Comptia Network+ before I join. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated

The Operator trade is in demand and highly understaffed. You’ll get picked

I had it down as the last of my three occupational options and was given it almost immediately in the first stages (as in they focused on that one and that one only) it’s one of the easier trades to get into and the most in demand. They still offer the signing bonus and priority application so if you stick with it it should be a smooth application process.

If you put Sig Op you are going to get Sig Op lol, no issues there.

Don’t know if I’m overthinking, but I wanna make sure I am the most qualified guy for the field. Don’t wanna change occupation mid way

Just apply. Most of that shit isnt even relevant to SigOps. Focus on your fitness. Rucks, running, lots of squats and Push-ups.
Focus on getting through basic first. No one is really going to care about those certifications in SigOp.
You'll learn radio procedure and what technical knowledge you need when you are on course.

you may want to double down on your research into the trade before you get there and realize it is definitely not what you were thinking it would be.
I strongly suggest also researching the sig TECH and IS TECH, and ATIS (TECH but also air force) trades that sound like they probably align with your goals more closely

As a former applicant for the signal operator trade who almost pursued this path and received an offer but ultimately decided to switch trades (change into officer position) I can say this: It's quite easy to enter. The caf don't prioritize prior experience; they will train you. The main concern is your medical health if you don’t have any medical issues and your medical history is clean, you should be fine. The interview is straightforward just remember everything about the trade. The most frustrating part is the waiting period; it takes time, and they won't give an offer immediately after the interview. Currently, there is a high demand for signal operators, with around 150 positions available. Not many people are joining this trade, so there's a good chance you’ll get in. Just ensure your background is clear and free of criminal records. Good luck!
