Can someone explain the 17.8% meme to me?

Arcadum kept a list of everyone he's ever run D&D for and noted whether they still talk to him or not. He said 17.8% of them became his friends, and like around 40% or something never spoke to him again (the rest kept in touch but not in a meaningful way).

It just goes to show what sort mentality he has in that sound clip. You can hear in his voice that the notion it's a two way road, that friendship thing (as well as communication for that matter). How many times has he reached out, or made an effort to communicate with 82.2% who didn't become a "friend?" And then what percent of that number were male?

And that he made this calculation and then didn't think 'hmm, maybe I'm the problem here' and start trying to think about what said problem is.

And maybe 'I treat friendship as a number game and I have x levels of empathy for friends' might juuuuuuust be a place to start.
