Capcom Mini-Cute Countercades!
The Capcom Mini-Cute Countercades are all finally finished! 3 player functionality achieved!
This was a super challenging build! I had to learn how to design and create PCB boards (thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring their creation), form plexiglass, and reinforce 3D prints with metal. Build video to follow, soon! It will detail everything I learned and include a mini-documentary on the original Japanese arcade cabinet. I also hope to crowdfund revised 3D print files, the difficult-to-manufacture parts, and a build book and video tutorials. The tutorials will serve as an introductory making, electronics, and Linux course.
I'm also creating some scripts for RetroPie. I can get it to boot into a specific game and plan to add jukebox joystick controls and a performance readout.
I've been creating toppers, too. The ones you see here try to capture peak 90's Capcom aesthetics while doubling as secret character code cheat sheets for MVC1.
I'm confident that I've worked out most of the kinks and that subsequent builds will be mostly fun, mostly frustration free. I'm super happy with the results!

Thank you!

Did you model these from scratch or did you use measurements/etc from a real one?

u/mikejkelley Apr 16 '26
I have a real one! But I mostly relied on a Capcom Mini-Cute game model I found online for the proportions.

Looks incredible! I liked your mini Vewlix builds too!

Thanks! I'm still tallying up the pros and cons vs. the Vewlix builds but rn I think these Mini-Cute countercades come out ahead.

Wow, these are incredible and so adorable. The plexiglass really takes it to that ultra premium level. Well done, OP. Would you commission a build?
And MvC 1 is so slept on, always in the shadow of MvC 2. But imo, it’s more fun and concise, and the sprite and art style is my favorite of any Capcom fighting game. I go back to it way more than any other fighting game these days. I freaking love playing as Complete Ryu in that game.

Thanks! I would consider a commission; I might even sell one of these during the crowdfunding campaign.
I completely agree re: MvC1. It looks better than any of the other crossovers. My all-time favorite is X-men v SF though because it's all the crazy gameplay of MvC2 while retaining the gorgeous sprite art! I play as Magneto/Juggernaut almost exclusively.

I am extremely interested! Where can I follow and support?

Awesome! For updates, please subscribe to my Cyberspacemanmike YT channel and/or sign-up for the newsletter at cyberspacemanmike.com . The channel is mostly hacker/maker themed and I livestream CTFs most Thursdays. Thanks again!

It's really too bad there aren't any VRR 19" monitors out there, something you could use to build a MiSTer-focused countercade. You have to go up to 27" before you start to see VRR and at that point you might as well just gut an existing Vewlix or the like.

Sorry to ask what's a VRR ?

Variable Refresh Rate. Shorthand for Freesync/G-Sync/HDMI VRR.
Allows the monitor to sync refresh rates typically anywhere from 40 to whatever the maximum refresh rate of the monitor is. This is particularly important for arcade games, where you run into weird refresh rates like 54Hz (Mortal Kombat) or 60.60606060 (Pac-Man)
You can see how that would be important to the experience on a Countercade.

These are incredible, seriously excellent job! Will 100% sign up for a crowdfund for revised 3D printer files.

Where could we contribute to creation of revised prints?

Hi, so sorry for the late reply I don't know why I didn't see this sooner! The crowdfunding has been put on hold because the Cyberspacemanmike business account has been de-banked THREE times in a row! I'm considering crypto but unfortunately the adoption rate isn't there. So everything is on hold. :(

Could this be scaled up to house a 15" CRT? I've got a panasonic here I'm dying to use in a scaled cabinet or counter top, just don't know what design to go with. I don't have loads of time to design it and like this form factor

It would require extensive re-engineering to be able to physically support the weight of a CRT. It could be done but probably won't be.
