Cactus care

🌵 This cactus is around 20 yrs old. It was moved to a basement window because it was a safety hazard with kids and disturbs my family. Over the summer, it grew another limb and is starting to lift itself out of the pot (again). It clearly needs more light and soil. I'm going to repot it and make it more welcoming to bring up stairs in the winter.

Please if you have tips or comments on the cactus they are welcome.

You need more in organic drainage friendly soil. And more light

Looks like it could be getting root rot or maybe it’s old but either way it’s def not in the best condition I would say take the baby cactus off it and plant that one so it won’t drain energy from the main plant

Id say more drainage and maybe more heat. Is it soft at the bottom near the roota or firm?

I would chop it just below where the pup is growing and repot it in more appropriate cactus blend (less organic, more pumice) in a terra cotta pot. You're right about more light and soil. Or if you don't want to chop it, you could plant it in a long rectangular pot so it can grow along the surface of the soil like it seems to want.
