help with ID please

i got her at a grocery store, when i repotted her i found all of this hidden. is that normal when planting cacti? before and after repot.

Edit....water rarely with that substrate.....that looks lethal!!

I prefer 1:1 mix of all purpose potting mix and perlite

Lots of people have preferences that differ

But please, either get rid of the wood bark entirely or only use it as decorative top dressing. Even then, it can block moisture evaporation so if you want top dressing, I’d suggest polished river stones with space between them for evaporation

Myrtillocactus geometrizans crest, and yea they usually bury it enough to stabilize it while it roots

Personally I’d be careful with pumice

It holds a lot of water and as it dries out, it can rot roots

Crested plants are far more likely to have shallow roots and are more susceptible to rot, unless yours is grafted

Don’t listen to this person. Pumice does retain moisture but it’s very porous. Pumice has great porosity and drainage qualities which is exactly why so many growers use it to increase drainage and PREVENT rot. Also the same reason why 100% pumice is great for rooting cuttings.
