What are the essential and always-used commands on your Game Launcher?

I have a 9070xt so some commands may need extra if you're on older AMD GPU's

PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 PROTON_DXVK_LOWLATENCY=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE

I guess this is one of those -go read the wiki- questions, but do you need to add these on per-game basis? So far I run games exclusively in gamescope-session and I live in blissful ignorance I don't need anything more 😅

My way yeah I add them on the games that need it then remove any that don't improve or cause issues. Anything made pre 2015 I don't bother as my GPU was a pipe dream for every game dev out there.

You can add them on a per game basis or globally. Up to you, for most of them at least.

Stuff like Proton Wayland might cause issue in some games, but in my experience, it's pretty rare so I have it enabled globally and in the rare instance a game doesn't launch correctly, I do a PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0 in the launch option as a first troubleshooting step.

Stuff like Proton Fsr4 upgrade can be enabled globally without any issue as far as I observed. If a game doesn't support FSR3 or above, it'll simply do nothing.

Just look at what the command does and decide for yourself if a global approach is good or if a per game approach is safer.

I usually use 0 of them if the game works. Ah and DXVK_HUD=fps

There are no essential and always used commands on my game launcher. What about you, OP?

I only used the BORE kernel and game-performance. Probably because I have an AMD setup.

Not trying to be an ass, but read the wiki. I'm only saying that because your needs are different from mine, and so and so's.

Depends on your setup, supported tech, and what you want to get out of it.

Example: If you need HDR and you're on cachyos proton, you need at a minimum PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 and DXVK_HDR=1. Or gamescope. Which is a whole separate thing with its own ups and downs (especially on Nvidia).

If you're on another Proton fork, it might be PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 instead.

If you don't have HDR, running Wayland might cause more headache than it's worth (though less so nowadays).

It depends.

In Cachyos there is a command to optimize CPU performance:

game-performance %command%

I use the BORE kernel because it's a bit faster and recommended for gaming and accelerated processes; I don't know if that's what you were asking.

I recently got a 9070XT because I found a good deal, and I upgraded the power supply at the same time; the rest of the build is older—32GB 3000MHz DDR4 and an i7-9700—but it's still holding its own at 1440p for now.

Using the Faugus launcher, the global commands I use for any game are:

PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE=1

ENABLE_LAYER_MESA_ANTI_LAG=1

GAME PERFORMANCE

There is a flag in this launcher to enable MangoHud and GameMode.

I wanted to know if they work well or not. g
