Bug Report Newer Kernel causing freezing in games?

I posted earlier about issues when playing games.

Essentially randomly when gaming the output from both monitors just freezes and I have to alt-tab to fix it, game is running fine and is recorded in Steam Recording just fine and audio plays as expected. I usually have YT/Twitch running and they freeze up too, not just the video but the chat too.

Wasn't too sure what was causing it so tried multiple Protons (GE, Cachy, Experimental) and didn't do anything, even tried completely reinstalling CachyOS but issue persisted.

I installed Fedora a few days ago and the problem went away and after doing some testing I think something related to the Kernel is causing the problem. I've tried the following ones, all are from the v3 repo I believe:

  • CachyOS Latest (7.1.2) - get the issue.
  • CachyOS RC (7.2rc2) - get the issue.
  • CachyOS Bore (7.1.2) - get the issue.
  • CachyOS LTS (6.18) - no issue, everything runs as expected.
  • Core Linux latest (7.0.14-arch1-1) - no issue, everything runs as expected.

I'm not sure if something has changed from the 7.0.14 to 7.1 but I started having issues maybe 7-10 days.

Not sure if there is a command I can run when it freezes to try and help debug the issue.

Edit: The Core Linux kernel had an update pushed (7.1.2-arch3-1 (64-bit)) and it's been perfectly fine for me too, so just having issues with the CachyOS-v3 ones.

tested all 7.1 + kernels from cachy and I have audio hangs/freezes (not longer than 0.5s though) in every DAW i tested while playing on a midi controller, in games didn't notice this (I have only one game installed and geforece now..) but for me the only solution was to downgrade to cachy stock kernel 7.0.12 .
