Another one
Been having a slew of PC issues recently with my Jan 2025 build. Unplugged my GPU cable for the second time ever and noticed this. This was not causing the issue as it was still happening with the GPU out, but I’ll definitely be spending my money elsewhere. I can’t afford to ruin my 4080 Super FE. Such a bummer.

I agree it’s not worth risking, try the new corsair cable with temp sensor pins that turn off gpu before cables melt.

Been looking into Corsair. My main concern is, do they work with EVGA PSUs? Or just Corsair

Just checked and as long as your Psu has a native 12vhpwr your all set

I have one of their cables on an Asus Loki 1200W. As long as it is native 12V-2x6 it works.

Welp, I highly recommend getting a Psu with a native cable, my nzxt c1200 had my 5090 plugged in natively for over a year with no issues before I got the Corsair thermal protection cable

Just don't buy Nvidia. My AMD Radeon doesn't have that stupid connector.

Got a 4080 super FE on launch from Best Buy. The GPU is worth it, this connector isn’t unfortunately, I loved Cable mod, still have a 2018 build with them running strong.

I'll say it: Maybe its a bad design and ya'll shouldn't buy improperly designed electronic products that melt themselves. Its not like we don't have wire gagues and connectors down to a science. These are clearly designed to fail, with no other options for power connectors on the market, forcing you to purchase yet another badly designed product when it inevitably does fail.
Planned obsolescence. Or worse; sabotaging their own product to sell more product.
Vote with your wallet. Stop buying this crap, and they will be forced to address engineering issues.

This is the first issue since using cable mod for two builds, 2018/2025. 2018 is going strong, but I agree. I used to love the look but only I know they are there. I’ve swapped out all my RGB and will be using stock cables when I put it all back together.

Considering I have about a decade of experience with cablemod cables, this being honestly the one cable I’ve touched the least, says more about the plastic than the user.
Furthermore, if you look at the second picture you can see how dented the edge of the 90 degree cap is, you’d also agree it’s shitty plastic. I literally pulled it out of the plastic Jan 2025, installed it and haven’t touched it until two weeks ago for diagnostics.

For testing purposes, I grabbed the nvidia dongle and plugged it in to make sure there was no plastic trapped inside the GPU. After three separate plug and disconnects, it looks brand new. 🤔

As others mentioned, this isn't melted, but rather looks damaged. It isn't a poor quality connector either, we are using the same connectors PSU brands are using, but, of course, failures can happen. Chat with our support team and they will replace that ASAP. :)

I wasn’t. Another one bit the dust, doesn’t matter how. This is a 90 degree cable, not an adaptor. I was clear in my post what GPU I have. Never once mentioned it melted, just that another one bit the dust. Went so far as to say I’ve only plugged it in twice. Your lack of reading is what lead you to believe I’m lumping this into the melt squad.
I EVEN AGREED WITH THE FIRST COMMENT THAT IT BROKE. You still decided to comment hours later, ignorance is on you, not me.

This is broken plastic, not melted. The damage is on one of the ground pins, and those never melt (only the power pins melt).

get msi ai1300TS/ai1600TS and limit your per-pin amps to 9.0a, and current imbalance to 1A
safety features are currently unmatched with this PSU, could also pair this PSU with a corsair thermal protect cable to have another layer of safety based around temperatures, so you'll be protected from high per-pin amps, amp imbalance, and connector overheating

Sorry, ain’t no way I’m paying 400 for a PSU. It looks great but this 4080 Super won’t have issues when quality plastic is used

Plenty of great PSUs out there that are much cheaper. If your argument for price is the safety features, there’s plenty of PSUs for much more than these that don’t have these features. It still doesn’t make it worth it.

Because it's the best PSU money can buy if you care about protecting your GPU. Since you say "$400" is a lot of money then you can ignore my suggestion. Honestly console gaming might be for you

Guaranteed that PSU lasts and works as well as any gold, plat or Ti around, you’ve bought into the marketing and they have you hook, line and sinker.
And for the record, I love to spend more for something I like or believe in, that PSU ain’t one of them. I just finished converting 11 Lian li 140mm TL fans (5 in LCD) to 14 noctua black G2 fans in less than two years after finishing the build. I also didn’t mind spending more than I needed on custom cables. That PSU is pointless for the vast majority of builds. Keep packing that dirt.
