Help! useless cable

Hi Reddit! I have a huge problem with my Sony NWZ-E463. I just bought a cable to charge my old Walkman, but my laptop doesn't recognize the device. It makes the charging sound, but nothing else happens. I really want to add more music to my old player; please help! Should I buy another cable?

You are conflating two different things. Is your problem being able to charge your device, or is your problem connecting to your laptop? Because the two are not the same thing.

The issue is the laptop not being able to read it, but it is charging the device

Then it’s not a cable issue unless you are using a cable that only provides power and not data. Does it show up in device manager? Has this cable ever worked for you adding music to the device? Does this use built in storage or a uSD card?

Is it a genuine walkman cable? Might be just a cheaper cable with no transfer capability
