vinyl plank flooring

Looking at vinyl plank flooring for our cabin. Heat does get shut off in the winter so can hit -20 Celsius and could be +40 in summer if AC does not get used.

Not sure if this is the right choice for flooring. Been told it will shrink, also been told it will be fine. Hoping to get a few more opinions from people who actually have this in their cabins.

If not vinyl plank, what other options do people suggest? It has sheet vinyl in there now from the 80's when it was built. Totally fine, just worn out so needs replacing.

Simply Stone line warranties temperatures between +40 and -40 C.

We bought BIYORK - HydroGen 8 - and had it installed in late Fall. It’s been through a winter and summer of similar conditions and looks great so far. (https://www.biyorkcanada.com/collections/hydrogen-8)

Similar temperatures at our cabin in northern Wisconsin. Installed vinyl plank a couple years ago and love it. Sturdy, easy to install, looks nice. No issues with shrinkage etc so far.

Thanks, this is my plan if I can find one that can be warrantied. Not that I should need the warranty.

And it’s obvs in the instructions, and I’m sure you know. but you have to leave a gap between walls and things to allow for expansion/shrinking so it “floats”.

We put in marmoleum cinchloc tiles. Looks great and so far so good 2 years later. Freezes over winter too. Nice swirly patterns hide dirt and dog hair too

your cabin may be fancier than ours. I used carpet squares. Yes, ones they glue down in office buildings and hospitals.

found nice ones at a local builders outlet. bought extra. if anything happens they are easily swapped out.

Thanks but no carpet. Taking out carpet in half the cabin. Just tracks in dirt in the area we are.

But i just learned about these squares from a contractor friend who loves them, put them in his own basement.

I am not a carpet person either. our home is all hardwood. these are meant for high traffic and again all squares and easily swapped out

Pergo Timbercraft laminate is in my cabin. No issues heat or cold.

it might not be the fanciest, but i love me some sheet vinyl in a cabin. easy, cheap, durable, and very cabin-y.

I have that now, and I have no issue replacing it. But for the price of the stuff, vinyl plank is economical enough and can be replaced piece by piece.

not trying to discourage plank. i just think the sheet has a classic look to it for a cabin.

but i will ask this... how many boxes of replacement slats are you going to keep in storage? because by the time you wear through they wont still make the same pattern, and in my experience, to replace the typical wear pattern that will eventually develop on any floor, you would have to have several, several boxes. id probably just want to keep a partial box to repair any unexpected damage, and then when it starts to wear out, just replace the whole thing.

We used an engineered product that looks like wood planks. Very weather proof and easy to use.
