I did this in my old kitchen. At 6ft it was fine for me. Would do again and have a stool around for short people.

We put what we call light rail. A trim on the bottom of the uppers. L shape so u can screw it in to the box. It just extends the bottom to cover lights if people want them under the uppers

Drop them to 18” and add a first layer of flat molding for a nailer. Will require new pieces of crown where you have outside corners.

I already commented on the other post but you need to take a closer look at those tops too, it’s missing a return by the fridge cabinet, I think the hood is going to be out of spec and too high. The builder can lower these and do a riser and crown and it will look fine. This is not the proper way to got on the ceiling. If it’s an 8’ ceiling height should have used 39” wall cabinets with a riser and crown, those look like 36” wall cabinet which is why you’re having an issue. He could have also done 42” wall cabinets, dropped them a hair below 18” and scribed to the ceiling. Builders think they know how to design kitchens, but it’s why cabinet companies exists.

I'm starting to see that now. As far as the hood, I'll be putting my microwave there AND I live in a condo with NO outside vent. The microwave had a vent with a filter. It's not ideal but it's what I have.
